Okay that sounds encouraging. When they actually add all this stuff it’ll be worth giving it a try. Not being able to access media libraries from the home tab was… a choice. Horizontal episode lists is crazy on a vertical device, and auto Skip Into is a dealbreaker for me now.
and just as I was saying plex is great!! So watching a tv show and can’t even go to the next ep as it only gives the option of going forward 30 secs and 30 secs back!!! Just why?
can you tell me about these options
I assume this is some cross platform codebase/wrapper that will never function properly on iOS.
You got it. React Native. That’s the crap we’re stuck with now. I’m on Android and it’s not any better
It runs like absolute ■■■■.
Is the miniplayer/ability to queue things just completely gone now? I can’t figure out how to do it
Not good. I cant access any of my music on my phone anymore. The folders don’t even show up. I don’t care about whats on apple tv, live tv or on demand. I don’t care what is trending. None of that matters to me. The first thing i did with plex is customize that stuff off…now i can’t. reason why I have plex is because it is easy to access my own files and that it was a reliable platform. Not anymore. Not happy for the first time in over 10 years of having plex.
The new app no longer includes music and photo libraries. Those have their own dedicated apps.
Dumb…just plain dumb.
Its a way better experience using PlexAmp for Music.
Agreed, but from what I understand it doesn’t support multiple libraries at the same time? Also there is no replacement for music once the tvOS/Android TV/etc. versions are updated.
My son has an iPhone 13 and the new Plex app runs as you state. Same as the Androids.
Something is seriously wrong with this app. I’m not sure what Plex is running in-house, but they must have seen this sluggishness.
I keep coming back to how we were told these new apps would help speed up development, but it seems we are seeing something quite different. For example: when was the last time Plex Photo app was updated? Currently I can’t view any photos in it and earlier it was just that the Timeline wasn’t working.
Sorry to jump on the whining bandwagon, but these new apps are a big step backwards for the users and are pretty much unusable at this point.
I would hate to be a Plex admin, who is stuck in the position of trying to figure out whether to sink $120 on a lifetime Plex Pass, before the end of the month, when you see the current state of the new mobile apps coming out and knowing the Smart TV apps are going through a similar change shortly.
Right now, Plexamp is the only mobile app that runs well. Maybe because Elan is the project manager on that app? Plex Photos is the forgotten mess. With the standard Plex app, it is just plain confusing what we can expect.
I have a long track record with Plex, and they have usually come through in the end, so I’m hopeful, but it really is painful to go through these types of releases (Discover was the last one).
What does that fabled ‘power pack’ mean?
In the meantime, any chance theme music comes back?
I’m guessing the auto skip intro/credit. I’m very annoyed by the app and that they haven’t rolled it back yet. The, “it will eventually be awesome,” attitude, gives off a big shut up plebs and enjoy your slop vibe.
It feels very “Sonos”
Especially without photo upload, why have a photo app when you can’t get photos into your server.
Well said.
I’m not sure the market/investment forces on Plex, but I’m not sure how releasing an app, which are inferior to the previous apps can help either. What is the reason for the push to release unfinished apps?
Is it trying to support an old version while developing a new one? If so, just come out and say it. What is the harm in being transparent in this case?
Sorry, I don’t know that story, but see it referred to often.
Oh, looked it up…wow!
Illustrating how poorly this app update has gone, last month, Sonos CEO Patrick Spence said the company would spend $20 million to $30 million in the short term to get the app where it needs to be (which is, basically, functioning as well as the predecessor) and rebuild customer and partner trust. Sonos also expects to miss its annual revenue target by $200 million. This is partially due to its delay of two hardware releases to focus on the app. Bloomberg noted that “Sonos shares are down 25% this year.” Annual bonuses and merit-based raises have also reportedly been canceled.
