I have a TS-453Pro that has died with the dreaded “System Fan #1” error
I run PMS with Plex pass.
Looking at the qnap page and the compatability page here at plex and I am trying
to figure out what to buy.
there are several models on the qnap page that are not in the compat list, so I am not sure.
I am looking at the TS-473A but that is not on the compat list. This model has Thunderbolt, which I don’t really care about. Trying to figure out what it will transcode.
Basically I want a qnap that runs QTS (so I can just move my disks over) that will transcode most stuff. An expansion slot for GPU would be nice too.
Another question about the compat matrix. If this is the wrong place to put this, i apologize.
In the hardware accelerated section does a “yes” (or “some”) in a column indicate
that the nas will do hardware acceleration (with plex pass) without an addition PCIe card?
Thank you again for keeping the information flowing.
Yes → means it can handle at least one at this resolution / quality
Some → means it has limitations. In the upper right corner of each ‘Some’ box is a note (triangle) where the limit is explained in further detail.
No → means it can’t reasonably transcode 1 stream without failing
Under the hardware side, there are
Yes → the resolution is valid both input and output
SDR only → (2160p input) shows if the CPU can accept that input. Most cannot.
H.264-output → Shown on the HEVC columns, is a qualified Yes.
The CPU can transcode that resolution and encoding but the Plex limitation (licensing) is the output is H.264 only. For most cases, H.264 is ok here because bit rates are also being reduced (for Remote Access)
External GPU
For those NAS models which support a Customer Installed Nvidia card, it is so indicated.
(If there’s ever a model which I’ve missed – PLEASE let me know ASAP)
