I have about 9,000 movies in my library, typically tagged from one to six different genres for each movie. If I use a custom filter to find two or more movies with the filter tag, like “vacation” and “boat” the player returns an error page stating “There was an unexpected error. Please visit our forums if you continue to experience problems”. The player is running on a Mac mini with the latest OS and updates (10.15.5) and I’m running a Synology NAS on using PlexMediaServer version -1.19.4.2935-79e214ead-x86_64. How can I use the custom filter without receiving the error message? Thank you.
I wish I knew. I did the same thing in ubuntu linux in my music library. I am using Chrome with the plex.tv online application and was creating a custom filter in preparation of creating a smart playlist. Now I get this same error every time I go to my music.
Thank you for confirming you’re having the same issue and on a different server system. Makes me think this is a more systemic issue in more than just my config. Any plex employee care to weigh in on this?
The client is remembering the filter for this library, which is probably triggering a bug.
You need to tell the client to not remember the filter anymore.
I know only the nuclear option for doing that, by resetting all preferences of the client.
If you do it with the web app, make sure to only use the hosted version https://app.plex.tv and not the one stored on your server (because that one is several versions behind).
