I have recently created a handful of customised video trailers which i would like plex to play before each and every movie that is played on my system. They are edited and personalised videos of some well known production/distribution companies such as Disney and Fox.
It is basically a welcome and enjoy the movie video with some nice themes and audio that is only 20 seconds long. Would it be possible for plex to create a feature where an option to play any sound or clip before a movie begins? Obviosuly people may have other ideas for videos and sounds to play but i would love to have the option to play one of the trailers at random before the movie itself begins playing.
I think this would really give the Plex experience a very personal and customisable feel to it. Also it would kick ass to have my name and message to pop up before each movie to really show off when friends are over watching a film. As an example of what i mean i have included a link to one of my created videos with the fantastic [iVIPidme](http://ivipid.com//) website. If you have not seen it already i would recommend it as i have made loads of them already.
The link to one of my custom introductions which i think would look incredible if appearing before a movie is played on my home cinema.
Also if you had a few different audio or visual clips to play with, it would be great to have the ability to designate a folder containing them in plex, and before each movie Plex selects one of them to play at random so there is a bit of variety available for everyone’s viewing experience.
For the time being i have made do with the startup playlist option found in the advanced tabs of the plea settings, however most of the time plex is running all day and so when people are round they do not get to see the trailer play because plex is already up and running.
Hopefully others feel this is a half decent idea and we can get it built into this already awesome program.
Did you get any help on this? I am looking for something to do the same as what you are looking for but to play about two or three videos. I want one of those old countdown clocks to play. Then the I want the pearl and dean one to play, and then my custom into. Only then do I want the film to start.
So any help would be appreciated if you managed to get something like this working.
Nothing so far but i quite like the sound of the old countdown clock! I saw the custom intro idea from the Kaleidescape tour which had a camera sweeping from the outside of a cinema to the inside with the name of the cinema being displayed as the owners of the house/media system.
So far i have made around 50 of these introductions in eager anticipation of being able to play these before a movie begins. I have also made some for friends of mine whom also use plex or dabble in video creating/editing and wish to add a nice touch to the beginning of their home movies or work projects.
I have another Idea: How about playing a few movie trailers from the apple trailers plugin based on the genre of the about to play movie before the actual film starts? This would enhance the cinema feeling.
My ideal would be to allow us to play either a single file, be it local or online straight before the movie begins playing or playing some at random from local or online sources. Being able to do either of these in a future update or through some added code on the current version of plex would be great.
It would work but it would require duplicating a single or multiple introduction files into each movie folder, then renaming each one accordingly to the appropriate movie in order for them to play. So for anyone with a somewhat large collection this would be what i can only describe as a pain in the ass.
Plex already has an option to play a startup video or audio playlist when opening the media centre so i cannot imagine it being very difficult to amend the settings to allow it to play a shuffled file from a specified folder before a movie from a folder called 'Introductions' for example. Although i am not a developer so this could be a lot harder than it sounds, as things like this tend to be.
You might be able to get away with using symbolic links to the original file, than have a script in the background rotate the source movie file ever X hours.
I will be honest and admit i have not got the slightest clue how to go about doing what you stated. If this would work however is there a guide or some hints from yourself that i could follow to get this working. There is only this and trailers that are missing from the plea experience.
