[Feature] Addition of an intro video before video content

My request is to have a new option under server extras to force one video ( or a folder of videos to have one selected randomly ) to be played before anything you watch, currently there is only the standard trailer settings of what to include and under advanced the option for a pre-roll item which has to be added to the plex library and linked to via the link which to me seems like a long way around it but I guess it works.

My proposal is to keep the current state but add a second option below the pre-roll for a personal intro which the server controls not the clients, for example right now the pre-roll only shows up if and only if the client device has enabled trailers, however it would be nice to play my own custom intro before any of my content starts playing, a setting to place the intro before or after the trailers and pre-roll or in between the trailers and pre-roll, this will allow the server owner the choice of when they want the intro to play, this would also need to work through shared servers so when I share my server with someone they get the intro play as well and would need to work even when the they haven’t enabled trailers.

I read the plex support post about the extras here ( https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/202920803-Extras ) which explains about having the “THX Sound” clip or a “please silence your phones”, My proposal would allow those to be combined into one clip that will play before any video content, what I want to do have a custom intro clip to be played before my custom content, without the need for trailers to be shown and without me having to re-render the video files with the intro clip slotted in before the real content.

NOTE: if this could be applied library level so the server owner can decided which video libraries get this intro clip added that would be even better.

Examples: ( pre-roll and trailers are optional in these examples )

Intro before content:

   - User clicks play on a movie
   - Player pops up and starts the intro video
   - intro video ends and feature begins to play

Intro before trailer / pre-roll:

   - User clicks play on a movie
   - Player pops up and starts the intro video
   - Intro video ends and starts the rotation of 3 trailers
   - Trailers ends and pre-roll video starts
   - Pre-roll video ends and feature begins to play

Intro between trailer / pre-roll:

   - User clicks play on a movie
   - Player pops up starts the rotation of 3 trailers
   - Trailers end and intro video starts
   - Intro video ends and pre-roll video starts
   - Pre-roll video ends and feature begins to play

Intro after trailer / pre-roll:

   - User clicks play on a movie
   - Player pops up and starts the rotation of 3 trailers
   - Trailers end and pre-roll video starts
   - Pre-roll ends and intro video starts
   - Intro video ends and feature begins to play

I like this as well.

Love this, it could even be handled with allowing a playlist to be used as pre-roll…

No, no a thousand times no. This is a very bad idea as it could allow Plex to become an advertising platform and I really do not want to see Plex even make small steps further in that direction. Some of the so called features already implemented are mechanisms that could allow this and a “random” video before a video is a more intrusive way to have ads play before movies,TV shows or videos of baby’s first steps.

There is an existing request that covers most of this. Personally, I think one pre-roll is enough.

It should also be noted that, at least on the Plex Roku app, the pre-roll plays even if the client setting for Trailers is “Don’t play.” The user can FF through the pre-roll, but they can’t prevent it from starting, and trailers do not need to be enabled in order for the pre-roll to run. Apparently this is not true for all clients, but it is for Plex/Roku.
