Running Plex on a Synology DS412+ which can have problems doing live transcodes of some files. Previously, I manually processed problemative files through ffmpeg but I’m hoping to start using the optimised versions option.
I’d like to create my own encoding profile for 720p/8Mb, but that’s not a default option (720p/4Mb, 1080p/8Mb). I’m guessing there’s probably an XML file or some other textconfig file somewhere that specifies these various options – can anyone point me at it, and are there any caveats people are aware of?
You can’t make that setting. The clients don’t support it.

Wait, what? How does that ever happen ? People’s files have any bitrate for any resolution, how can clients not support those (non existing) custom profiles?
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. There is no quality setting for 720p/8 Mbps on the client end, so if the file is set to 720p/8 Mbps, the client would need to have a setting of 1080p/8 Mbps in order to direct play it. So the appropriate optimized version setting would be 1080p/8 Mbps. You can manually create a file for 720p/8 Mbps, but since the optimize feature is designed to line up with the clients, it doesn’t allow that combo.
