Server Version#: You are currently running version 1.40.1.8227 on the server. Version 1.40.2.8395 is now available
My plex is installed on C:\Plex, not the default path. I also have my metadata on D:\Plex\App Data\Plex Media Server so I assume I fall under the custom install paths. Nervous to upgrade to this with this process as I’ve never done it this way.
Just uninstalling in programs/settings and running the downloaded installer Version 1.40.2.8395 from the updates folder is the best way to do this?
Does it upgrade the DB during the reinstall?
Do I have to do the uninstall and reinstall every time going forward or just this one time? Should I some how fix the custom install to the default install location?
I strongly recommend using the default installation path. There is no good reason not to use it.
The location of the plex data folder is not affected by the issue in the release notes.
Usually yes, however:
make sure NOT to use any kind of “uninstaller” app. Just the default Apps control panel of Windows.
ensure that there is NO kind of Windows “optimizer” or "registry cleaner"app active in the background (“CCleaner” etc.)
If you use these kinds of app and you uninstall Plex server, they will erase all your Plex library data. So beware.
No, this happens upon the first start of the upgraded server version.
It is a good idea to ensure the health of your Plex database before the upgrade. This can prevent a failure during the database conversion after the upgrade.
The .bat file from this project
will automate it as much as possible.
Just make sure that you are running the bat file under the same Windows user account that is also used to run your Plex server.
No, just this time. The integrated updater should work from this version on.
I was able to upgrade today with this process and no issues. Thank you again for your help, much appreciated. I installed it with the default path this time in program files.
