Manual reinstall Plex Media Server (Win11)

New Public PMS 1.40.2.8395 says

We have identified an issue where automatic updates were not respecting custom paths for existing Windows 64-bit installs. Unfortunately, any automatic fix would introduce security vulnerabilities so we encourage users who installed in a custom path to uninstall and then manually reinstall Plex Media Server.

My PMS folder that contains cache, logs, metadata, etc. is not on the C:/ drive, so I believe I am in the group that should manually reinstall. I’d like to know what to expect before starting the process. Do you uninstall from the Windows/Settings/Apps interface? Or is that all available from the PMS installer? Is my data persistent, or should I have some folders saved?

EDIT: Upon further review, Plex Media Server.exe is located at C:/Program Files/Plex/Plex Media Server/ So maybe an uninstall isn’t needed?

Then this is already the 64 bit version.

Verify that you don’t have the 32 bit version installed in parallel.
If it’s installed, it is in C:/Program Files (x86)/Plex/Plex Media Server/

Yes.

Your Plex server data are persistent, unless you have 3rd-party software on your computer which will “helpfully” remove leftover data of apps which have been uninstalled. One such tool is CCleaner.
Avoid this type of utility apps. If you use a 3rd-party anti virus, these also sometimes bring uninstaller and “cleaner” tools with them. So be aware.

But if you already have the 64 bit server (and only the 64bit server), then there is no need to do anything.
