I disagree. Plex has always said they do not want to manage metadata, I get that and fully support it. They instead fetch/scrape the metadata from other sources and THEIR primary starting source for tv series is TMDB. They have said this many times which is why the default episode ordering within plex is tmdb.
However, they have now decided to deviate away from this for this show and thus complicated things. They no longer support matching this show or use episode ordering for that show from tmdb, which again is THEIR default tv episode ordering. Yes, this show is somewhat of a edge case but as I have pointed out above its not unique and other shows which use split seasons don’t have this problem.
So, its not hard for plex to manage this, just get the data from the metadata provider. They are making it hard …
So everyone is stating the facts and fictions and who is to blame … but has anyone succeeded in having Plex recognize the series? If so … without using a C++ programming or switching to Linux… how did you manage?
Until Plex separates these shows, I’ve got them as two seasons of Monster (Dahmer 2022), then use episode ordering from TTVDB. Unfortunately, it pulls no cast information for “season 2” because cast info comes from TMDB by default. I’m good with them as separate shows or as one series, but Plex needs to commit to something and input proper metadata to match – manually if necessary.
It’s been over a month since this show premiered, and there has been no resolution. It seems like the Plex admins should be able to fix this, even if it requires treating this as a one-off and executing some manual intervention. Can we get an update please?
Is there an update available from the Plex Team yet? None of the workarounds have worked for me, so I would be truly grateful if some assistance could be provided here.
Hey BigWheel. Can you please help us get this situation resolved? We’d all really appreciate an update on the plan for this. It’s been several weeks, and it feels like we’re just being ghosted by PLEX when there is no communication or response for weeks at a time.
It seems like an easy fix to either separate these shows per TMDB or manually merge the metadata (cast particularly). I get there needs to be a long term solution for similar issues in the future, but for now this seems like a one-off that needs more immediate resolution. Please update us?
Any update on the multiple TMDb IDs issue? Ideally, ‘Monsters (2024)’ should be separated from ‘Dahmer’ and treated as an independent series in Plex. Thanks in advance for any progress on this
Another week passes by and plex still cannot handle this show.
BTW… I updated this post DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story -- multiple tmdb ids - #8 by dokuro to include yet another show which plex DOES match correctly when both imdb & tvdb list the show as a single series and tmdb does not. That’s seven listing in total (that I’m aware of) which does support this scenario but for whatever stubborn reasons plex does not want to handle this one …
Amazing that we are getting into April and no solution or even explanation has been posted yet… What should we do Plex???
So frustrating the latest changes in Plex, bad poster default download in spanish and now this, I’ve just deactivated metadata auto-update after eleven years!!!
IMO, they don’t see it as a problem so are doing nothing to resolve it. This specific show (and some other like it) will never resolve correctly in plex …
