Same. Can not add it
I don’t have the files but here’s what worked for me (with stub files):
Named and organized like this:
Results in this:
I am using the new Plex metadata agents. I would imagine my luck with this is due to using the TVDB ID in the parent folder name.
Good luck,
Chris
Looks like there might be some cross-contamination going on here.
Monsters on watch.plex.tv shows the 2022 Monster series about Dahmer, with the Dahmer poster, but the title is " Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story", which is the 2024 series.
https://watch.plex.tv/en-GB/show/monster-2022
Edit: Unless they fix it in their backend, try using the tmdb id in either the folder name itself, or using that to “Fix Match”.
tmdb-225634
Edit: Ah, I think the reason being that TVDB is combining the “Monster 2022” Dahmer and “Monsters 2024 with Lyle and Erik” into one show as seasons 1 and 2. There’s even an entry for “The Ed Gein Story” season 3 there. Oy, what a mess.
i tried everything did not work so just now what i did is split them up and changed the name and posters + background -_-
Maybe just to help diagnose this: to be clear, this trouble is happening when you’re using the new Plex scraper/agent (which many people have trouble with), not the old agents that draw data directly from TheTVDB/TheMovieDB?
Looks like the Plex AGENT isn’t able to identify it as " Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story".
The “movie data base” agent is, however, able to identify it as it should be
So you’d have to switch agent just for this show as long as other agents are not fixed ?
This is challenging because Dahmer and Monsters are being rebranded as multiple seasons of a single anthology series named Monster (with season 3 in development). IMDB and TTVDB both recognize them as two seasons of Monster, while Netflix and TMDB both consider them as two separate mini-series.
PLEX Agent is connecting them as one series, but because PLEX Agent pulls cast and episode information primarily from TMDB, it is not updating with season two or its cast. We can manually adjust to TTVDB episode order, but there is no way to import the cast.
TMDB has responded that they have no plans to merge the series to match IMDB because Netflix lists them individually. There were similar issues when Criminal Minds: Evolution premiered, but TMDB eventually acquiesced and merged it into the main series.
But assuming things stay as they are, how is PLEX Agent going to handle this? Currently, PLEX Agent is matching both to one series, but only has the metadata for season one (Dahmer). PLEX can’t have it both ways. Mods, how can we fix this?
I knew this show was going to be a problem and warned plex via DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story -- multiple tmdb ids a month ago they had a problem with ids for this show.
Alas while they acknowledged my post the metadata team have done nothing to fix it. Even searching for tmdb-225634
which is the listing at tmdb for the new monsters show actually matches the dahmer shows metadata
Yeah, that’s because Plex Agent is recognizing Monster as one series per IMDB but is pulling the metadata from TMDB, which does not. This problem could easily be solved if Plex allowed us to match series to whichever source we choose. But once we’ve gone Plex Agent for overall efficiency, options are gone.
Consider voting here [Feature Request] Ability to specify Metadata from a single source (IMDB, TMDB or TVDB) if you have any free votes.
I’d like the option to choose the primary source for each movie or series individually, not for Plex to be locked into any single metadata source. While TMDB is usually preferred (and easiest to edit), it’s not always the best choice for certain series (particularly because TMDB limits the choice of episode order).
Metadata is a really hard problem. I worked as a sysadmin for a library for a few years and got to see up close and personal how hard resolving ambiguous edge cases was even for dozens of professionally trained metadata librarians working together. This is one of the many reasons why some users have, in the past, suggested that handling metadata internally is extremely difficult and requires a lot of resources and human capital. And perhaps a reason that some users have, in the past, suggested that plans to expand to cover even more and more complicated types of metadata might be overly optimistic.
Well it seems like the best solution is to give us more editing ability by allowing us to edit cast information locally — just as we can edit every other detail within a show or movie. This one change would fix so many of these issues because we would have a way to fix problems ourselves. We should be able to search the database for an actor the same way we can search a director. I’m sure I’m oversimplifying, but it’s the kind of change that makes metadata imperfections manageable.
Same problem here with Sonarr if that matters
Honestly plex you seem over reliant on your back-end automation and someone needs to just go and manually fix this up.
Tried adding the show today Monsters (2024) {tmdb-225634}
and its merged with DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022) {tmdb-113988}
.
This type of major show level metadata clash should take at most a day or to resolve and not weeks (and I say weeks as I raised this on Aug 26th)!
I’m trying to understand why no one from Plex has responded to this thread. It feels very dismissive to not even acknowledge our concerns. They’ve had plenty of time to address this. I merged the two series into one (that’s how Plex matches it) and manually entered the S02 episode data, but unfortunately I have to rely on Plex for the cast info, which is non-existent. Please FIX THIS. Or, separate the shows per TMDB and Netflix. The 2024 season is the only one I actually care about, and it has ZERO cast information.
No news about this show ? On Plex, this show doesn’t exist no matter what I try…
Nop no news guess they just ignoring it not big deal to them
There’s two forum posts about this. There was a Plex response in the other:
