I’ve been using PMS for 4 years now, especially for DVR. Occasional issues here or there but it’s been very stable for a long while. In the last couple of weeks I’m getting near nightly crashes while streaming live TV while recording multiple shows. The live stream stops and goes to the home screen and Plex Media Player left menu shows a warning symbol for Live TV and DVR. I’m running Plex as a service and if I take a look at the service logs, I can tell that the service restarted so PMS definitely appears to be crashing.
I’m not really comfortable posting my logs publicly but I hope this doesn’t prevent me from getting help, it’s a little frustrating I don’t have a more traditional way to get support for a service I’ve paid for (sorry, I digress). I have the setting checked to upload to Plex and I can see in the crash logs that info is uploaded successfully so maybe Plex has my info?
In addition to the frequent PMS crashes, I’m also having frequent issues with Plex Media Player on Windows 10, it essentially acts like it’s logged out and I end up re-linking it to my account and I lose all PMP customization. I don’t use Roku or FireTV because my server isn’t very well powered and it plays much better locally on PMP. This is a secondary issue really but may be related to the PMS crashes?
Lastly, my recordings are being sent to a QNAP NAS that’s well powered and has 4, 4TB WD Reds.
I know there’s a lot here but I’m hoping I can get some help to resolve these mysteries before I rip my hair out. I work in IT all day and the last thing I want to do is look at logs all night when I come home. My wife is getting really tired of missing the first 30 minutes of most primetime TV when the live stream we are watching crashes and we lose the simultaneous recordings (especially during a pandemic where staying home and watching TV is pretty much what we’ve got to do).
PS: In the time it took me to write this, PMS crashed a second time at the end of the show my wife was watching…
