Probably reported elsewhere, but I couldn’t find it.
Whenever a video is 480p (DVD rip) the dashboard does not show any of the information regarding the stream - direct play, codec, etc. All other resolutions seem to work properly. I would guess it’s a server issue, rather than the web app, because Tautilli shows the same non-existent / missing info.
Oops! My mistake. The “Batman Begins” video seems to be streaming at 720p. I have two versions, of it, one at 720p and one at 480p. Perhaps it’s the 2 versions causing the problem. It used to work right, and checking the “now playing” screen is not something I do regularly, so I can’t say when it started to fail.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I can’t imagine how test files for Kodi would help for a problem I’m having with Plex. I’ve been ripping dvd’s and blurays for years, and I kinda think I know what I’m doing to get them to stream properly with Plex. The file plays properly, and is direct playing, just a glitch in how the “Now Playing” screen reports it.
Ok I think we can agree that the files on the Kodi site are not special for Kodi.
They are easy to find videos that devs can also grab without you having to upload anything.
When both parties use identical files to reproduce an issue, that’s how you reduce the variables.
Why would it be useful to have devs use the same file as you? The reason is because they are trying to reproduce your issue, and may not be able to, like I am not able.
Why would the file have anything to do with the problem?
Good question. How about we reduce the variables so we can define the problem?
Still not convinced? Go into the beta forum and read how many times the devs ask for
So sorry I hit a nerve. It wasn’t intended. I have, over the years, provided sample files to help resolve issues, and I know they are important. I’m not new around here. and I believe in a couple of instances, the samples I provided aided in the resolution to a problem.
The files in the screenshot above direct play correctly with no glitches, are not transcoded, and are simply not reported correctly in the Dashboard. I’ve provided the XML for the files and a server log.
I can also add, that if the file is played on a Roku, or with the Web app, the information on the dashboard displays properly. If the file is played on Android TV, the normal streaming info is missing. In all cases, the file is direct played. Perhaps I’ll edit the tags for this post so the android devs will see it as well
I reported it because it is a glitch, not the end of the world. But you’re right, it is just visual.
When I get some time, I’ll try a movie that has 2 versions on the Android TV app.
Since Plex web and a Roku report correctly when the same file is played, it might be a mis-communication between the android and the server that get’s mixed up somehow for the file selection if there are multiple versions. Basically, I don’t think the server knows what the heck is going on.
I doubt the streams selected information in the XML is relevant, because that is the stream the Web app would choose. (I’ve actually had this discussion before, and it turned out it has no relevance) In any event, the stream selected for all of my testing, whether a “show” or “no show” was the AC3 5.1 audio.
In any event. I would probably post this info/link in the Tautulli thread cause it affects it too. It seems like plex is sending bogus info to Tautulli or Tautulli isn’t retrieving the info correctly.
