Dashboard - See how many items are in processing queue for particular task

Hey there,

I’d would really like to see more information about ongoing activities from scheduled tasks or when media is added.

What do I mean by this? Let me show you an example:

I go ahead and add 50 media files to the server. The server starts analyzing the content, adds metadata if possible and also creates thumbnails and whatnot.

Right now we only see that the server is doing something when clicking on the “Dashboard icon”(the one with the pulse) on media XY. I can see what is processed right now but I can’t see how many files are left in the current task or how many files have been processed already and what has been done. Especially when rebuilding a DB due to a move to a new NAS, OS or something this would be beneficial.

I can look through the logs but that is rather exhausting, digging through thousands of lines of logs.

So the request looks like this: I wish for some indication to see how many items still need to be touched for a particular task.

Examples:

Generating Preview Thumbnails [Media 7 of 50] - Currently processing “That one movie (2024)” [70% finished]

Detecting Intro/Credits [Media 15 of 50] - Currently processing “That one Show S01E01” [16% finished]

Fetching new Metadata [Media 70 of 300] - Currently processing “You get it” [99%]

Have you considered using Plex Dash?
Those information should already be displayed on the app‘s activities page.

Yes, but Plex Dash shows the same information as the WebServer.

I can see what the server is currently doing and which file is being processed right now

BUT I can’t see how many files are in queue for processing, or how much of this kind of database and server maintenance has happened in the last Hours / Days / Weeks.

Yes, thats exactly what I’m looking at.

Having some sort of indication of how many items are in queue for processing action XY.

For example you could determine all items which need Thumbnail creation upfront and then display a progress bar for this task.

Same for credits/intros and maybe metadata.

That would be really great
