Date added is wrong

Server Version#: Version 1.19.5.3112
Player Version#: N/A but Web Version 4.38.2

A few weeks ago my server hard drive died and I didn’t have a data backup, so I got my server fixed with a new drive and a fresh Windows 10 installation, and I’m re-importing all of my media into a fresh installation of Plex server.

For the first several days, everything looked good: As I imported media, and sorted by Date Added (which I use a lot to make sure that my newest content gets the right sharing labels added), the info looked correct. But somewhere around 5 days after importing my media, something happened. The same 35 movies have said that they were imported “a few seconds ago” for over a week. Movies that I have imported since then, show the correct import time which makes them appear below these permanent “A few seconds ago” movies in the Date Added sorting, which makes them harder to find and process. There are other re-imported movies that show a Date Added ranging from “19 days ago” (before this server existed) to “17 years ago” (before Plex existed probably).

It’s all very weird, and happened suddenly. Any ideas? Refreshing the metadata for the incorrect movies doesn’t seem to do anything.

Check the date of these files in your storage.
They may lie in the future.

Do also verify if they are “matched” to a metadata agent.

OK, weird: The modified date on these stubbornly “a few seconds ago” files is in the year 2097.

I’m not sure what happened to my entire media storage file system, but many of the “modified” dates are implausible.

If you add a folder of media right during the creation of a library, Plex is using the file date as ‘Date added at’. Which means that these items now have a date in the future in the plex database.

You could perform the Plex Dance with the few affected items.

To prevent this from happening in the future, configure your NAS/file server to fetch correct clock time automatically, using the ntp service.

There should also be software available for every OS, which allows you to change the file dates back to sane values.
