I was having errors on my hard drive last week. Files weren’t saving, I was getting errors retrieving files, etc. Booted into a recovery OS, full error checking & correction etc. Which was great, my HD is functioning normally again! YAY!!!..
But Plex is all out of order regarding “newly added” section of movies. I did download 3 new movies yesterday and they all show up correctly.
Last week to search for movies I have downloaded and forgotten about. I need to go to my movie folder search .mp4,.avi, *.mkv and sort by date.
Its not really a big deal, but I was wondering if there was anyway to have Plex mirror my file system regarding date (created/modified) attribute?
BIG SHOUT OUT TO @FordGuy61 for helping me big time restore plex after a system restore
If you add a folder full of movies during the course of creating a Plex library, Plex will not use today’s date as “added at”. Instead, it will use each file’s “date/time” stamp.
Which usually makes more sense.
yea i noticed, after i fully resorted my computer to a previous date and needed to do a plex start from scratch. It displays movies that were much older… like under recently added it has “new guys” from 2011 and the 1st deadpool. Even though they aren’t what my hd has as date created. Idk I was just wondering.
Thanks for the prompt response Otto!!! Plex forums has been so kind to me! I really have been very surprised by the immediate responses. After the dust settles and I’m not so busy planning this dispensary (don’t get into the legal cannabis industry its a fkin nightmare!) I would like to get more into modding & customizing my plex server more.
Another possiblity:
During the addition of these movies, the real time clock (RTC) of your Plex server machine was incorrectly set.
This happens particularly frequent if the server is running on a NAS or embedded system without a battery-buffered RTC. Which means that after bootup, such a machine first needs to get out on the internet and fetch the current time from a ntp server.
If the internet connection is down or wonky, the server device may not get correct time and date for a certain duration. Which then of course leads to Plex putting a wrong “added at” date into its database, if new items are added during this time.
