DB Update Problems?

Just came home to check my Plex Server (~9,000 movies) and found hundreds of “newly added” and that 223 prior resolved duplicates ( a pantload of effort to resolve) have now been reduped in the library. In short, WTF? How can I reverse your destruction?

Here’s a guess -

You have Empty trash automatically after every scan enabled (it’s on by default) in Settings -> Library.

Your Plex server temporarily lost connectivity to some of your media, and removed the unavailable items. (Plex tries to prevent this, but there are still ways it can occur.)

Then the media came back. Perhaps a USB drive, NAS connection, or other remote mount? So Plex scanned the items and began matching them again.

I’m guessing the file naming isn’t perfect, so Plex wasn’t able to automatically re-match the movies correctly.

I strongly encourage you to disable Empty trash automatically after every scan.

Depending on when this happened, you could consider reverting to a previous DB backup.

If your files are well-named but you have hard-to-match movies, consider adding an identifier to their folder/file names. Search for tt0372784 on this page for instructions:

Interesting. I will have to work through it. Thank you for the suggestions.

Wow, thank you. Reverted to last and rescanned. Had to re-fix 2 or 3 instead of 200+. This saved me countless hours. Weeks worth of rework actually. Thank you.
