I am currently on Plex Version 3.63.1, and sometime in the last month or two Plex seems have went and made duplicate entries for EVERY video file. The file I uploaded to this also shows that only one image actually links to the movie as you can see with edit options.
I have a back up per the Plex knowledge article from about 6 months ago… can I use that to fix the issue, or are there version issues I try restoring ? https://support.plex.tv/articles/201539237-backing-up-plex-media-server-data/
What version do I reinstall - Will this fix my duplicate issue, is there a better way to remove the duplicate entry with out deleting each duplicate title?
Second issue:
I have cleaned up bad matches several times, and when you have many files it is time consuming, and annoying to correct regularly. Is there a way to have Plex stop auto matching files that have been scanned 1x? The reason I ask is that it seems over time Plex will match movies that have been corrected… For Example: The Guardian and Brothers were matched and marked as duplicates, however, the file names are completely different. These two files were correct a while back, and yesterday they were combined again, why???
I use the directory structure as described. My movies are not Filename (YYYY).MP4, rather they are Filename.MP4. That being said, my files match fine 9 times out o 10… The issues are:
Why did Plex create duplicate thumbnails for 1500 movies?
Why does Plex merge movies that do not match… Example The Guardian.mp4 vs Brothers.mp4 These movies were correct a few months back, and as of yesterday they were merged together. If PLEX simply looked at names prior to making its decision to match it would not!
Restore is an option to clean-up the mess PLEX made, but do I have to reinstall the version from 6 months ago, or just reinstall the current version, the article say to reinstall, but doesn’t state Current version, or an older one.
I can turn off Matching and do it myself I guess, but Plex should not try to auto match things it has seen.
Sorry, I guess I am missing a something… The link you gave me for naming does not discuss functionality for a collection, or turning it off. Only directory structure and naming. That said, I do have collections like Stargate SG1 in the TV folder.
See: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200381023-naming-movie-files/
This link takes me to the movie DB, and allows me to search for movies
Also make sure, that the files are named according to https://www.themoviedb.org/

As far as the year is concerned on the file name, does that need part of the File name, or in the actual Meta data of the file? Also, my experience with using the year in the file name is that it shows up in the title and the requires me to edit the file to fix the sort title.
Also, When I manually match the movie, or manually split and match movies PLEX should not rescan them as I manually made that change. Perhaps that is a feature request, but it would seem to make sense to leave movies alone that the PLEX user manually changes.
Thank you… I didn’t see that URL in the reply. The documentation is a little off, but I got that sorted out.,
Do you know if there is a way to have Plex not change files I fix? I know the thoughts on file naming, however, it should not match or combine any files that the Plex users manually updates.
If a movie get’s matched incorrectly, or not matched, some metadata might be missing. as such some might get re-matched automatically by PMS during the scheduled tasks (Butler).
As such, naming is very important.
