Player Version#: Plex Web Version 4.95.2 + Others Apologies I can’t see how to disable Verbose Logging
Can anyone confirm if 4k HDR → 1080p SDR Hardware transcoding is working? I’ve found lots of unRAID posts discussing this with 11th Gen GPU but no definitive answer?
If I force a 1080p Remux to Transcode, Plex and intel_gpu_top reports GPU usage.
If I force a H265 HDR Remux to transcode, only software transcoding.
This is a relatively clean install of OMV6, bare metal PMS install. I have previously had an older CPU and P400 Nvidia so new to the Intel iGPU game.

Your HW transcoding is suppressed because the subtitles are present in the file AND the player did not expressly exclude them.
Software merging of the images (subtitle and video) is needed.
The HW decode is there but encode is suppressed from displaying.
You’re seeing the impact of merging the two video planes in software.
If you set to “automatic”, which is best, you’ll get this behavior.
The challenge to you comes in how you curate the media. Do you need the PGS subtitles ? If you don’t, I recommend you remove them.
When you say Automatic do you mean Video Quality or Settings → Language → Automatically Select… ?
Is the Subtitle issue a H265 → H264 issue or a Intel QSV issue? Reason I ask is I have a H264 1080p Bluray Remux with PGS subtitles that will hw transcode perfectly; and when I had a Nvidia P400 the CPU was not powerful enough to direct play H265 / HDR content and therefor must have been able to hw transcode H265 + PGS subtitles as I never noticed any issues?
This maybe related but this morning while away from home on 4G Cellular (i.e. must have been transcoding!) Plex would play 1080p H264 + PGS ( No subtitles selected) but Transcoder failed on both a H265 ( Lightyear again) and a Dolby Vision ( Profile 7 with HDR) (Bullet Train). Logs attached ( now set to debug ) and media info attached. Player: Plex for iOS V8.11.1

You want automatic. If you have either of the other two, the burn is forced.
Is the Subtitle issue a H265 → H264 issue or a Intel QSV issue?
Subtitles are subtitles; independent of source / target.
and when I had a Nvidia P400 the CPU was not powerful enough to direct play H265 / HDR content and therefor must have been able to hw transcode H265 + PGS subtitles as I never noticed any issues?

An ARMv7 CPU can DirectPlay HEVC HDR with PGS subtitles
DirectPlay = Read the file off the disk – Send exactly as it is without any processing.
See why your statement & question is unclear to me?
So I only use Subtitles when “Forced” is selected ( i.e Foreign Audio in parts). In both Plex Web and iOS Subtitles are selected to “Automatic”.
As you rightly state, any of my devices will Direct Play; however with my previous build of Intel Atom D525 + Nvidia P400 if I selected / needed to Transcode a H265/HEVC video it would use HW for this. ( To be explicit no subtitles selected - but PGS within the source file). The CPU was not capable of Transcoding H265 / HEVC.
Now on my new build; direct play works across all devices, but when I attempt to Transcode a H265 / HEVC ( no subtitles selected, PGS stream in source) it falls back to software. This is compared to Transcoding a H264 file ( no subtitles selected, PGS present in source) which successfully transcodes in HW.
UPDATE:
I updated my Kernel to Proxmox Linux 5.19.17-1-pve and installed the package discussed in another post / forum here.
I can now use HW transcoding from HEVC to H264. Screenshot attached.
@ChuckPa Let me know if logs would be helpful / needed. I’m presuming changes in this beta release will be detailed in the upstream Release Note when merged?
