I have thousands of images/videos on several different Devices, including Synology NAS Drives and Mac Studio. They all do the same thing. When I add a new folder, rename a folder or refresh my Metadata, Plex, while it is scanning my environment, seems to have no reason as how it picks a Poster.
Is there a way to have Plex select the first image in the folder, regardless of image/video type to represent the poster for the whole folder???
I‘m not sure I understand your question. If you have poster images for your files… naming them according to the official naming schema will let Plex pick them up automatically. IIRC Plex will pick the first poster if you provide more than one (e.g. cover.jpg > cover-2.jpg > … > cover-5.jpg).

okay, the way I have set up my Plex Servers is by creating numerous folders containing multiple subfolders. Each of these folder are drilled down from Category, Year and then Month/Day. For example I have taken images/videos yesterday about Pelicans. My Category would be Birds and the Year 2023 and the actual month/day/year. So it would look like this.
Birds - 2023 - 2023-10-03 Pelicans Nesting. Now, say I have taken 20 images and one video. These images/videos each have a pre-fix and a number. If using a Nikon D750, my images would be D750-0001 through D750-0020. When I place the images into Plex and scan the files, it would register them with my Plex server and create a thumbnail images for the folder name “2023-10-03 Pelicans Nesting” and I would expect that it would select the first image in the folder (ie, D750-0001) but it does NOT seem to do that. I am finding that it appears to select an image randomly. Lots of times, I will actually AND on purpose, create an enhanced or special image from one of the 20 and name it so it becomes the first image in the folder. (ie. I took image D750-0015 and ran it through the “Aurora HDR” app and save the results as D750-0000). It will be the first viewed when viewing that particular sub-folder with a Plex Player. But it does NOT seem to take the first one to be the thumbnail of the subfolder.
I have tried removing the thumbnails and re-scanning the files, but never seem to get the first one in any folder.
