I would love for a way to change all the default subtitles in a TV series at once. In the language settings, I have it to automatically enable subtitles if foreign audio is detected, however it sometimes displays subtitles for my purely-english shows anyways.
The only way I have found to turn off subtitles is by manually going into each episode, of each season, of each TV series and selecting the drop-down subtitle box to “None”. If a TV show has 90 episodes… I have to select “None” 90 individual times.
So I am asking for an easier way to control subtitles on a per-series basis.
Well, reposting here since I didn’t see this thread when I searched.
I’d like to be able to choose the subtitle track and audio track at the series level. Here’s my use case:
I have ripped a bunch of anime TV series from DVD and Blu-ray, virtually all of them have two audio tracks (English and Japanese), and two subtitle tracks (sign-only for the English dub, full translation for the Japanese audio). I have not watched many of them, so I don’t know which I prefer ahead of time when ripping. My wife might prefer a different option, so I’d like to keep both language options. I have no way of knowing which subtitle track is which as every series is different and they’re typically both listed as English, so I have to experiment to get it right.
I’d like to be able to choose a subtitle and audio track once for a series and have the server remember that setting when I go back to watch another episode in that series, and be able to change the default easily if I change my mind or someone else watches it. If I bounce between multiple anime series I have to mess around with figuring out which subtitle track I want every time I watch an episode. It would also help a great deal with the autoplay feature.
Also, I pretty much only use the PS4 client so it’d be great if the UI there supported this feature, but it seems like this would be something that would be useful for others.
Same here, I have some series that are Several Seasons, but it Defaults to “English” Signs and Songs, instead of “English” Full.
There are more than 1 type of “English” Sub which Plex cannot differentiate because it classifies them by language. If Plex were to: 1. Support Multiple Subtitles for the Same Language & let you Choose Between them. 2. Allow you to set default subtitles on a Per-Library & Per-Series basis. 3. Just make the interface for subtitles more user friendly so you can tell the difference between “English” Signs & “English” Full Subs.
It would also be nice if Plex would just read the stream labels in Matroska files and display them – so I don’t have to guess which “English” option is full subs and which is only songs and signs, or which is normal captions and which is SDH captions.
Since someone else just tried to start a similar thread and it got locked, I’ll add a bit to this one.
It occurred to me recently that Plex apparently already handles this with multi-part video files, since the documentation requires that both files have the same audio and subtitle tracks. The bare minimum would be to apply this to TV series, without having to change the UI at all. Just remember what the audio/sub setting was on the last watched episode in a series (or even season) and apply it to future episodes.
I get that it’s likely to break, like a show that has a commentary track for only a few episodes, but dealing with that would be the exception. Maybe just have a toggle for sticky language settings for TV shows.
We really need this feature!! Anime is the most obvious use case, but there’s tons of situations where MKVs with subs/dubs in the same file will have the same problem. Also, displaying the label from the MKV for the audio/sub tracks is a no-brainer improvement.
It would be best if the language/subs preferences could be set at the library level rather than server/account.
This is very needed. I prefer seeing the videos in their original language, but some series are very well dubbed in my native language and I would love to be able to set the settings per series.
