Deleted Everything!?!? View Plex trash?

Does anyone know how to view what is in the Plex trash?  I only see the option to empty it.

I've recently tried to switch my media center to another computer from Mac to Linux.  I couldn't see anything while my ex HD was plugged into my linux.  I got frustrated and went back to my Mac.  When I started my media center up; Plex went crazy and started deleting everything.  I know I didn't delete anything when viewing my ex HD on my Mac or linux.  I had a 3TB full of movies and tv shows.  I am now the proud owner of only 5 tv shows. I'm trying to find out what happened and where my media is.  Suggestions anyone?

I'm looking at recovery data software - any suggestions?  I know probably some will be recoverable, but not 3TB worth.  Anyone....anyone...Bueller...Bueller?

a short search in the plex forum, would have showed you this:

Have not read through it, so I hope it gives you a start.

Plex won't have any of your media. The trash only has the metadata and pictures and stuff that were downloaded to present your media files. Now it seems it was set to remove the media somehow if they were not present in the librairy. If you don't have a bin set on your media center then...

but if you have setup plex server to empty the trash, does it also empty the trash of the nas? in my case freenas.

no, Plex trash has no relation with the computer/nas trash.

No idea if that is possible but Plex may bypass the computer trash while deleting stuff though. I know certain programs can delete things permanently without them going to the bin at all. Emptying or not Plex trash still would have no effect on this as it is done when the media is deleted, no relation at all with the metadata which is in Plex trash.

Also my QNAPs require me to enable the trash which isn't by default. So you need ot make sure it is enabled if you fear loosing files inaverdently.

great so I am save. I setup my nas with trash and setup plex server to delete its trash daily.

Open a sqlite3 command line session on the plex database (the details of which are well explained in posts such as https://forums.plex.tv/topic/31636-howto-query-data-from-plex-on-a-mac/).  This query will give you a simple list of items in the trash:

select * from media_parts where deleted_at not null;

It would be nice to see what you are about to delete before emptying the trash. Adding this would be a nice update.

As stated throughout this this thread already, deleting “Trash” in Plex does not delete any actual content/files from your computer. It just updates the metadata in your Plex Library (basically, a database). You can view your library and the items that will be “trashed” will have a trash can icon on them.

More about Plex “trash” is covered in this support article:

I think you are wrong. I checked the box allow to delete file and then went to the library. I selected the trash icon and deleted the contents. I went to my movie directory and the files are GONE. What is the sense of trash if you cannot restore the files that were deleted.

When is selected the trash icon it warned me that the contents would be deleted.

Look in your computer’s trash

Thank -you.
Where do I find info about Plex trash? I looked around the forum but need some understanding.

Exactly what about Trash do you want to know? To remove trash icons? Enabling, Allow media deletion, this is not recommended.
