Deleted shows no longer being removed even with "empty trash"

New problem to me even though I see it being reported occasionally as far back as 2016. I went to my hard drive and directly deleted a bunch of shows. Now I can’t get Plex to make them go away even though I have “Empty Trash after Scan” checked and I have also manually emptied the trash.

I can get them to delete by deleting the show inside the plex server, which I guess is another way I could have removed them from my hard drive, but now that is double work…

Until recently, deleting something from the hard drive was automatically removing it from the library, but that seems to have stopped working recently.

How do I fix this?

Did you try forcing a rescan (and waiting for it to finish) before emptying the trash?

I tried “Scan Library Files” and even tried “Refresh Metadata” (even thought I didn’t think refreshing metadata would work)… No dice.
