Hello all,
I am sorry if this question is redundant. I am new to Plex and I did do a search on this (in this forum and google), but I seem to get conflicted answers. When checking “allow media deletion” permissions in advanced settings, does that give me the ability to actually delete the files off my computer? It says underneath this checkbox that “owner of the server will be allowed to delete media files from disk”. If “disk” means my computer, I do NOT want to ever do that by accident (or my kid playing with my phone), so I would uncheck it if that is the case. All searches just seem to say it deletes the content from the Plex library…but one response seemed different and the language here scares me a bit. Thanks!
Yes, Delete from disk means delete from computer.
I did not like to ever delete anything from inside Plex so I did not check that box. I prefer to do all me file maintenance from the operating system.
I have never seen the point of allowing Plex, or other programs of that nature, to delete my video/audio/picture files.
You are correct. Enabling that feature will indeed allow you to delete media from your server from the client.
I was afraid of it too in the beginning, but you really have to intentionally hit the trashcan button and it will ask you for a confirmation, so you probably won’t accidentally delete anything.
A child, however… is a very different story.
