Server Settings: Disable Delete Media

OK, I have 2 Plex Media Servers up and running now and it works great.

On my first server I remember changing a setting so deleting media files through the app was not possible. I can see now - on my second server - that the setting is enabled.

Problem is: I can’t find the page where that function is disabled/enabled. I’ve compared every settings page (server to server) but I can’t find it.

Do you know where it’s at?

I believe what you are looking for is under settings -> library and Allow media deletion

I also disable this just to be sure of no unwanted media deletion by mistake

Yes, that was it.

Thank you

I’ld also rather delete from other interfaces than the player.

Yeap, me too. I’m actually surprised this isn’t disabled by default. I’m sure someone has lost lots of media. I could easily see a child deleting stuff not really knowing what they are doing.

Yeah, it could just be disabled by default.

Well, for my setup it’s not good to delete through the player so I’m glad the options is there

Good luck to everyone on not losing files. I am very upset and very angry because Plex just randomly deleted wide swathes of my media collection of TV shows. Some of the files I found in my recycle bin but others, presumably because they were too large to go into the recycle bin, are just GONE.
I have all of those settings that would enable file deletion by Plex disabled both under “Library” in settings and in each individual TV show where I made sure that the “keep always” and delete “never” were set correctly in advanced settings.
Plex deleted them anyway.
I am PISSED! I have been using Plex for months with no problems. Then I saw that there was an update (4.22.2) and so I updated.
Overnight I awoke to find my media collection on my hard drive decimated. There was no other variable that could have caused this. I had not “optimized” anything or changed any settings at all. I simply updated to the latest version, so be warned!
I am a 53 year old grandmother so I may not be the most up to date on Plex but I certainly sure as Hell know when an app has a BUG or a terrible update where developers decided to change something only to have it back fire. What other explanation is there? It’s the only variable that changed on my PC.
Deleting files off of your hard drive is an inherently intrusive feature that should NEVER be a part of Plex. It’s a terrible idea. I’d like to know what Plex is going to do about this? There are threads going back YEARS of people who lost their files due to settings changing and other “user” errors. Why is this a feature at all? FIX THIS PLEX.
Oh and by the way, PLEX DELETED ABOUT 500 GB of MY FILES on one hard drive! I just uninstalled Plex because it didn’t touch my other 3 hard drives for whatever reason and I’m not going to give it a chance to! Be warned everyone.
