I feel incredibly stupid posting this, but for the past month or so my desktop app, with a fresh desktop app install, won’t open at all on my w64 machine. With the server running, I click the exe for Plex and it just spins the cursor, and then nothing happens. No popups, no errors, no notis, nothing. I’m hoping it’s something incredibly stupid that i’m overlooking, but any ideas? Tautulli doesn’t work either, but that’s a whole 'nother topic.
Is it creating a logs folder? https://support.plex.tv/articles/windows-mac-app-logs/
Nope.
What version of Windows? (7,8,10 etc)
Sorry, 10. Forgot to put it in there.
10.0.18363
Do you have S mode enabled maybe preventing non store apps from being installed? https://www.howtogeek.com/354057/what-is-windows-10-in-s-mode/
Nope, not in that. It installed just fine, the app itself just won’t open.
I have a logs folder, but it hasn’t been modified since 12/2019
are you able to reinstall it? maybe a component is missing.
I did already, 3 times.
OK can you try to deleting %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex it will be recreated when app launches again. should make everything default.
(if you have the server installed on this machine as well make sure to not delete the Plex Media Server folder which is also in AppData)
Okay, I figured it out. This is on me for not mentioning it, but it was never an issue in my mind until I thought about it today. I bought a new SSD and moved Plex onto it back in December, and when I re-installed the Plex app, it didn’t work. Turns out I had to delete the old logs, and now it works.
