So, I’ve setup my desktop as a small media server running Plex; I’m casting to a 1st generation Chromecast using my IPhone as the remote.
Running a 3.7 Ghz quad core i7 with 16 GB RAM on 50 Mbps internet; 1080p is stuttering periodically, my system is hardly flinching so I’m not sure where the breakdown is. Plex and the media is on a 6 GB/sec SSD, and I’m running Windows 10 Enterprise
CPU and Memory are < 20% utilization and I’ve got plenty of speed left on my internet, what could I start troubleshooting? This is getting frustrating.

the chromecast is the issue.
The processor on the chromecast stutters with media in 1080p.
use a rasperry Pi with Rasplex instead.
Can I just get a new Chromecast?

you will have the same issue with a new chromecast or the chromecast version2.
well ■■■■, never messed with Rasberry Pi before, I guess I will need to stick with 720p for now. Any other solutions?

Personally I have another PC with Plex Media player installed on it, and no issues.
You might consider a Roku or appleTV.
Try to disable ‘secure connections’ under
Settings - Server - Network
then restart the Plex server and then the Chromecast.
Then try again.
How high is the bitrate of your 1080p files? my 1st and 2nd gen chromecasts handle 1080p, as long as its not too high the 1st gen has no issue.
