"Detected as" bandwidth

What is the “detected as” bandwidth shown in the playback settings of the plex client (in this case, Nvidia shield)?

So what is its purpose? I saw in the another thread where @mark_07 showed a detected as bandwidth of 600Mbps+ when the bitrate of the file is, IIRC, below 50Mbps.

I’ve not seen it that high since, usually ~100Mbps, I think I just happened to look at the height of it filling the buffer!

It just indicates how fast it’s getting data. While it’s not currently utilised on Android Mobile, it is on Android TV for helping to determine the best quality to play at, and there is a lot of common code there too.
