Different editions\versions as same movie, allow to choose

Currently if you have multiple editions, which are tagged with {edition}, Plex lists them as two separate movies. This can make things messy if you have lots of movies with lots of editions.

Why can Plex not list it as one movie and when you hit play it askes which edition you want to play? This seems like something easy and obvious.

Same can go for different formats (4K vs 1080p). Currently it picks the best one. If I am on something I know won’t play 4k well, I have no choice. Currently have to have two separate libraries. I mean, if you know to go to versions you can choose. But by default if you just hit play it will pick the best copy. This is bad for remote. Just let us be able to choose edition\format.

There’s already an existing suggest discussing an option to collapse multiple editions into a single library entry (incl. an option to support a Play Edition button or dialog). Please comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes. Unless I’m missing a unique aspect of your suggestion I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.
