Dear Plex Team and Community,
I am writing to propose an enhancement to the current handling of Multiple Editions in Plex. As it stands, Plex has two distinct features for handling multiple versions of a movie: Multiple Editions and Multi-Version Movies.
Multi-Version Movies are consolidated into a single item within the Plex media library, allowing users to select their preferred version at playback. On the other hand, Multiple Editions, when assigned with Edition information, are treated as separate items and cannot be toggled between during playback.
While this distinction may be useful in certain scenarios, I believe there is a strong case for treating Multiple Editions in a similar manner to Multi-Version Movies. Specifically, I propose that Multiple Editions of a movie should be merged into a single item in the library, with the ability for users to select their preferred Edition at playback.
The rationale behind this proposal is that different cuts or editions of a movie often do not significantly deviate from each other. They essentially represent the same film and, as such, there is no need for them to be displayed as separate items. Consolidating them into a single item not only streamlines the user interface but also enhances the user experience by allowing for seamless switching between different editions, much like how one can switch between different versions in the current Multi-Version Movies feature.
I believe this proposed enhancement will greatly improve the flexibility and user-friendliness of Plex, particularly for cinephiles who enjoy exploring different cuts and editions of their favorite films.
Thank you for considering this proposal. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback.
