Go to watch a show and click on an episode but it starts playing a different episode from a spinoff show. The subtitles still match the selected episode but the audio and video are from a spinoff show. Didn’t happen on the first season but now almost the whole 2nd season is being played over by the 2nd season of spinoff.
Plex Documentation → Your Media
→ Naming & Organizing Your TV Show Files
→ Naming & Organizing Your Movie Files
Does this happen for one episode or multiple episodes?
Please show how you have both shows named and organized. A directory listing, screenshot from Finder/File Manager/etc. Include the full path to the files.
In Plex Web, go to the episode. Click on the three dots (more). Post a screenshot of the media info. It will show the file(s) and path(s). See Investigate Media Info and Formats for an example.
This reads like a naming and/or organization issue. Be sure to follow Plex naming and organization guidelines.
Correct Example:
/tv shows <-- folder added to tv show library
/Star Trek (1966)
/Season 01
/Star Trek (1966) s01e01.mkv
/Star Trek The Next Generation (1987)
/Season 01
/Star Trek The Next Generation (1987) s01e01.mkv
Incorrect Example:
/tv shows <-- folder added to tv show library
/Star Trek Shows <-- NOT supported by Plex.
/Star Trek (1966)
/Season 01
/Star Trek (1966) s01e01.mkv
/Star Trek The Next Generation (1987)
/Season 01
/Star Trek The Next Generation (1987) s01e01.mkv
It is several episodes. I just started using plex and the show is listed in my “continue watching”. I clicked on the three dots and this is what I was able to see in the web player…;
Is the show on your server, someone else’s server, or the free Plex ad-supported streaming service?
If on your server, you must be logged in with the server owner ID. Also, navigate to the episode in the tv show library instead of using Continue Watching.
If on someone else’s server, contact the server owner.
If on the free, ad-supported service, there is nothing you can do. Plex will have to contact the provider of that show.
unfortunately it is in the free ad-supported service. I just started using it the other day. How likely is it that plex would fix the issue? If its too much trouble for slim chance, oh well
Gotcha. I misunderstood. I thought you were watching from your server.
Plex will have to contact the content provider for the show and have them correct the problem. How long that takes is up to the content provider.
That’s alright, thank you for your awesome help and fast replies ![]()
Thanks for report I’ll let our content team know.
