Hi,
Currently I have 2 Plex servers, one connected with a HDHR Prime and one with a HDHR Connect, because Plex won’t support both together with the EPG limitation.
Is this going to be supported anytime soon?

You can add them to the same server. I added the Prime first, then added the Connect. Plex asked me to map the OTA channel to the same Cable channel, i.e (5.1 = 803). If there’s not a cable channel, you have to disable it. But, it put the Connect first in the list and all recordings picked it first. I would like to be able to change the order and possible even select which tuner to use by program. The reason is, not all of my OTA channels come in good, but can be used in a pinch to resolve a conflict.
The way you are setup, you could just point one of your Plex servers at the other one’s folder and would only need to use the 2nd one to manage the recordings.

Can you elaborate on this?
I have three SD tuners: a Prime, Dual (previously wasn’t compatible, but later firmware updates supposedly made it work), and Connect. I added the Prime first then the dual (which I now have deleted from the DVR) and the Connect. I can’t get Plex to use the Connect at all that I know of. ALL recording or live playing is using the Prime still.
The ultimate goal is to cord-cut. Along that vein, I want it to use the Connect FIRST because I want it to use my OTA antenna to record anything that it can. What’s left for now, I can get from the Prime like my cable stuff. I have a CableCard.
I don’t see any way to force it to use the Connect. I also don’t see any way to re-order as you allude to above. How do you make the Connect “first”? I tried deselecting the OTA stations I get in the Prime setup in DVR, but I still can’t access those channels. Do you have to delete the entire DVR and start over, adding the Connect first?
I REALLY want this to work, Connect, then Prime based on tuner availability. It sounds like there are still some bugs to work out but frankly, I don’t see any clear answers in the docs or forum. I’m asking you here because it sounds like you know how to make it work and you CERTAINLY know more than me!
Thanks!

“Supported”? Are you saying that it is not currently supported by Plex and in fact you can’t use multiple SiliconDust tuners together?
Ugh…
You can use multiples of the same kind for sure. I’m able to mix them as long as you set them up with common channels. But, Plex does not provide a way to control which tuner it picks. That’s what it needs for both of us to be able to mix them.

So do you mean it “should” rollover to the next tuner if all the first ones are used? I guess I’d be happy to be able to get my Connect to work at all as that will become my primary tuner soon…
Can you give me a simple process? I have the Prime connected (with CableCard) to of course my raw cable feed. It works great. I have a Connect with a large, powered HD antenna in my attic that works. The tuner find dozens of stations and I can watch them via the HDHomeRun app or even from within the config utility via VLC.
As far as I can tell Plex has NEVER accessed that tuner for anything.
The tuner is definitely seeing the channels. Plex just isn’t using them for some reason. When I went in and disabled some of the local stations from within the Plex config for the Prime tuner and tried to record some shows, it acted like it was recording but they never showed up in my library and and they disappeared from the recording schedule entirely.
It will use it if you have 4 programs recording at once. Prime only has 3 tuners. But, only if the 4th program is for one of your OTA channels. We need more control, so it uses it better.

I just found this in the FAQ located here:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/226463767-Frequently-Asked-Questions-DVR-Live-TV
"> Can I add more than one DVR tuner?
Multiple tuners can be added from within the Plex Web app, provided you are using version 2.10.5 or newer. Tuners should be of the same type; all OTA or all cable, on the same Plex Media Server"
I’m trying to understand how you got these to work together since this says they have to be all the “same type” of tuner.
That’s what I read also. But, I tried it and it worked. I had to remove mine, because it was selecting the OTA channels first every time and I didn’t want that. But it did work and it used both tuners.

So you added both to the same DVR on the same server.
You added the Prime first, then the Connect.
Then you said this:
Plex asked me to map the OTA channel to the same Cable channel, i.e (5.1 = 803). If there’s not a cable channel, you have to disable it. But, it put the Connect first in the list and all recordings picked it first.
I’m confused. How did you change the order?
I also don’t know what you mean by “Plex asked me to map…”

I kept hitting continue until I got to this screen. OTA on the left, Cable on the right.
OK, I’ve been pondering this since I don’t REALLY get it still.
when you say you installed the Prime first but put the Connect first in the list what do you mean? Are you saying that you are able to change the order of the tuners you have set up in the Plex DVR? As far as I can tell it puts them in the order you add them when you initially set up the DVR and I can’t figure out any way to change them.
@jfgilliam Let me update a bit. I THINK I get what you’re saying here. I created a new DVR and installed the Connect first and alone. I wanted to make sure that Plex could see/use it by itself. It can. I recorded things overnight that worked great.
This morning I added the Prime. In the setup process there was a screen that looked similar to what you posted except mine was labeled “over the air channels” or similar. You’re doesn’t say that. What I interpreted my screen to mean is that I select the channels in the Prime mapping that are available OTA. That way it uses the Connect first then will rollover to the Prime if both Connect tuners are in use.
Am I getting that right?
It will take a while for the guide to update and test so I’ll BBL…

Dude, thanks a lot! I don’t know why I didn’ t thought about this before!

Good, except I did the Prime first. I’ll be interested to know how many channels you get on your guide after adding the prime.

I have no idea how many channels I have n my guide. How can you even tell with the mess of an EPG that we currently have? You can’t even sort by channel! I can’t wait for the usable EPG upgrade!
OK…regardless of the numbers are you saying that whichever tuner is added first is what determines how many channels are capable of being seen?
Most importantly it sounds like how it works is that you added the Prime, scanned all channels then added the Connect and scanned it. What you’re saying is by doing that the Connect was used first automatically for OTA broadcast recording and the Prime kicks in if both Connect tuners are in use?
I’m sorry that I’m being so thick. I’m obviously missing something simple here… What I am looking to do is have BOTH tuners in place, but prioritize the Connect for the stuff it is capable of getting OTA and only use the Prime if the Connect is full or I’m trying to record something from cable.
Without reading back through this entire thread from what I recall reading over the past week or so is that the Connect was added first and then the DVR was deleted. The information on devices is maintained in the database and kept even after the DVR is deleted. He then setup the Prime first in the new DVR configuration and setup the EPG based on his cable provider. Then he added the Connect back to the DVR and setup the OTA channels the connect can receive. Since the Connect was originally added to Plex first it has a lower unique ID in the Device table than the Prime and therefore is used first when a recording is started on an OTA channel.

AHHHH! I didn’t realize that but it does make sense! I was wondering about how it knew which tuner had priority. I can’t find anything about that in the docs. I was thinking (but not sure) that whichever tuner you added first had priority which is why I added the Connect first during the first rebuild based on my not fully understanding what @jfgilliam was saying.
So does the recording schedule also stay in the DB if the DVR is wiped out and re-added? I manually rebuilt it last time because I wasn’t sure. the guide is currently rebuilding as I deleted the DVR…again…and added the Prime first.
I take there must be a way to completely reset and start from scratch if needed, correct?
No idea what’s going to happen here, but I hope it works…
Thanks!
Yes, the recording schedule does stay in the database. I removed one tuner and added the other and they showed back up. I assume if would not if you pegged it a specific channel, but I didn’t do that.

Interesting. I’ll have to check that. I know I did pick specific channels for some of my scheduled recordings.
What I saw initially is that once the EPG started to rebuild all my scheduled shows came up with zero airings. Maybe they would’ve come back if I let it all complete but I’m gonna check to see which ones are for specific channels
