Differently tagged albums in differently named folders show as multiple instance of the same album

That is only necessary if you have more than one disc in one album.
If you have an album with e.g. 2 discs and your track numbers start at 1 at each disc, then things go haywire if there are no disc numbers.

Right - for me, I’ve eliminated disc numbers and simply number all tracks in order sequentially across the entire album. Not disc 1 tracks 1-9 and disc 2 tracks 1-11, but the album with tracks 1-20.

That should be OK, I think.

Have you performed “Refresh Metadata” on the artist of these albums?
Could you do that and fetch a complete ZIP of server logs?

Does anything change if you perform the Plex Dance “light” (meaning omit step 4) with one album?

That was my hope. The disc number issue is more an annoyance than a real problem, except when the downloaded data puts a given track on the wrong disc.

I truly appreciate all your help. I’m inferring from the lack of response about a way to use only local metadata using non-deprecated agents and scanners that this is not possible. Because of some peculiarities with how I’m organizing my media, I am thinking the conclusion is that Plex is not for me, at least with regard to music. I had high hopes with the re-work of the back end in the last year or so and the recent release of PlexAmp.

In any event, I’m probably back to AirSonic for music unless and until something changes with the way the agents work.

Thanks again - I really do appreciate the assistance.

Edit: I did refresh metadata on the artist. Have not tried Plex Dance light. Maybe that will be my last ditch effort here.

Doing the abbreviated Plex dance on a sample of problematic albums basically resulted in their import back into the library in the same way they were before.

I believe pretty strongly that the only way Plex is going to meet my audio needs is to allow me an option that looks only at local metadata, and Plex has chosen to deprecate options that support that strategy.

Again, I appreciate all your suggestions and help, and I realize I am probably in the minority with my use case. Thanks so much for your assistance.
