Ok… So, yes, I had embedded TITLE tags, as well as some additional info in there. Here’s what I did… I took the video file and completely removed all the title, tags, and anything else in the file. Now I have a new virgin MP4 file. No data.
How did you do it?
- EMPTY TRASH
The trashcan in Plex?
- CLEAN BUNDLES
this one? Did you wait until it was finished (it may take a while)?
All seems good, and then the same happens. Could the database be correct, and not correcting itself?
This is exactly what the Plex Dance is about: cleaning any remnants from the database.
There are 3 possible reasons:
- the files still have embedded metadata
- the plex dance was not correctly executed
- the Plex database is damaged and therefore doesn’t work as expected
- can be tested by using a (dummy) file, which is named like the episode, but doesn’t contain anything
if 3), a message about ‘database corruption’ should appear in the Plex Media Server.log file after a re-start of the server
You can also opt for including the show’s title in the file name of all episodes. The numbers in the title may throw off Plex’s heuristics, so it makes sense to stick to the naming guide exactly.
