Music is not direct played on the android TV app. Playing flac files of various bitrates, my preamp always shows 2ch PCM 48khz @ 16 bit bitdepth. even when playing flac files with higher sample rates and bit depth. Furthermore, when playing multichannel flac files, the output from the shield is still PCM 2.0 instead of PCM 5.1.
Using tautulli (software similar to the plex dashboard, but shows a bit more info), I can see that the stream shows direct play:
Stream: Direct Play
Container: Direct Play (FLAC)
Audio: Direct Play (FLAC 5.1)
I confirmed this by using a laptop with the plex windows app on it. I plugged the laptop into my preamp via hdmi. using the plex media app on windows, the 5.1 flac did play correctly, and sent the surround channels to the correct speakers.
Because of this, i believe the issue lies with the Android TV plex app not switching the output to PCM 5.1 (or whatever audio stream exists on the file being played).
