The Problem
Most Blue-Ray movies I try to play on my home theater don’t do direct play and since they are so large they take too much CPU to transcode. This make the viewing experience unbearable with the video pausing every 1-2 seconds and audio sometimes not working at all or at least after the first few minutes.
The Setup
Hardware
- QNAP TS-453A
- 14 nm Intel Celeron N3160 1.6 GHz quad-core processor
- 16Tb (14 usable) total storage (4x 4Tb WD Black Performance Drives)
- Has HDMI out port
The QNAP is connect VIA HDMI to my Denon Receiver that has a Projector as the output
Software
I have Plex Home Theater installed as an HD Station application.
Movies
I rip all my movies (mostly Blue-Rays) with MakeMKV and plop them onto my server. The files sizes are between 19-30Gb. Most of the files I have problems with are similar to this Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)
The Question
Why do none of my movies direct play? I don’t think I have ever seen my CPU not at 100% while playing a movie. Do I need to do something to the files to make them compatible? I feel like MPEg-4 in H264 should work fine but it transcodes all the files.
Any ideas? Thank you for your help.
Edit
Sorry I did not realize that this was for PMS only if someone could move my post that would be great.
