Direct Stream option

Hi everybody,

first of all sorry if this looks so newbie, but this is my first contact with Plex so… I’ll briefly explain my environment and then do my question (silly one probably for you):

I have 2 RPi2 model B, one is with Plex Media Server and the other one with the RasPlex to play the content on remote TV. In the Media Server RPi, everything is fine, but on the RasPlex, I’d like to run Direct Stream (because this TV is no on the same LAN than the PMS), but checking all the preferences, I can only find Direct Play option or force transcoding, but no Direct Stream.

Am I missing something? Because in the web player I can set Direct Play , Direct Stream or Transcoding while in the RasPlex I can only find Direct Stream (with different qualities) and the check boxes to force Transcoding.

Any help please?

There is no Direct Stream option.

Would not recommend using PMS on a RPi2 for remote connections due to necessity of likely having to set a transcoding option due to bandwidth of Internet up/down connections. As you are aware the RPi2 will not support transcoding.

Thank you for the info. I’m aware of the limitations of the RPi2 for transcoding, but having a good ISP here so shouldn’t need to transcode.

And now a second question if you could help me or maybe it’s out of the topic but I must ask.

Is there any other client to consume the PMS content on the RPi2 that allows direct streaming?
