Directories Not Showing Within Plex

I want to add my collection of Laurel & Hardy films to my Plex on NAS and I want to create a directory for each film as there are different versions of the same film and I want to keep them in the same directory.

However, when I create a directory for each title, Plex does not separate or show the individual sub-directories but, instead, puts all the films into the main folder.

This means I have a folder called Laurel & Hardy in which all the films are stored, despite adding separate directories for them.

I followed the instructions for creating directories and sub-directories, but when I put content in a file structure such as /Media /Movies, when I search for the added content, it only shows me system files and not the films.

I’m lost as to how to reoslve this.

Plex is not a “file browser”.
It is creating a database from your media files, which then can be queried and browsed in a variety of ways.

The folder organization on your hard drive and the file names only serve the purpose of successfully identify the title and “match” the video. https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/your-media/

If you are looking for a way to create a subgenre within Plex, take a look at Collections. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201273953-collections/
You cannot create collections by storing a bunch of movies inside a common folder.

Thanks for your reply.

I can see that I have been looking at this incorrectly and treating it as a file browser. I’ll check out the links.

Thanks.
