I have recently configured a Plex server on my Synology NAS so that I can more easily access my extensive media library. However, I am having some problems figuring out how to organize said library on the back-end such that Plex can actually see everything.
So far in a lot of directories I’ve added, its not seeing my carefully curated subfolders.
Plex is not a file browser.
Subfolders, as far as Plex is concerned, exist only to indicate to Plex different media. It is not designed to mirror an arbitrary folder organization in its user interface.
If you want to save yourself a lot of time I would recommend using Download - tinyMediaManager and use the formats below as the new name format.
for movies: ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}}
for TV shows ${showTitle} - S${seasonNr2}E${episodeNr2} - ${title}
The recommended library structure is <path to media directory>\Movies\${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}}\${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}.<ext>
or for TV shows: <path to media directory>\TV\${showTitle} (${showYear}) {tvdb-${tvShow.ids.tvdb}}\Season ${seasonNr}\${showTitle} - S${seasonNr2}E${episodeNr2} - ${title}.<ext>
Then point plex to <path to media directory>\TV for TV shows, and <path to media directory>\Movies for movies.
