How can automatic generation of collections when media files are added to the library be disabled? I have made sure that “Use collection info from The Movie Database” is unchecked but collection info is still being pulled in, and the collections that are being made are not coming from the “Album” metadata of the movie files.
just to clarify: you disabled Use collection info fro The Movie Database
in the advanced library configuration and Plex is still creating new collections when you add new content?
The setting that I disabled was the Use collection info for The Movie Database
setting and was disabled under the Agents
tab of Settings
for both The Movie Database
and Plex Movie
agents.
Bear in mind that disabling the setting won’t delete collections which were created automatically; it will only prevent collections from being created automatically going forward. You will have to go in and delete any collections which do not want.
Yes, this is on newly added media that is being added after disabling the setting.
The agent setting should also apply for the library… however and just to be safe: can you double-check if Use collection info from The Movie Database
is disabled in the library itself (Advanced
tab in ...
> Manage Library
> Edit...
).
With this disabled, the only other source of collection information is the embedded Album
tag in a mp4/m4v file (with local media assets enabled for that agent). As you ruled that out, that’d leave us in the woods…
That got it. I was thinking the that disabling the Agents from pulling the information would handle it, but I guess not.
I have a similar issue that when I throw any movie at PMS, it gets placed into its own Collection, which 99% of the time is inappropriate, so I then have to go in and manually remove them and delete the unwanted collections (or the other way around).
Is there any way to simply stop this creation of Collections? I have configured it to NOT get Collection info from any on-line sources, so it seems these are being created from the Album tag which unfortunately exits within most of the mp4 movies I need to import and is more faff to remove than sort out the collections later.
I don’t want to turn off Local Media Assets as there may be other info that I want Plex to find. I just want it to ignore what’s in the Album tag. How can I do this and if I cannot, then I guess I need to request this as certainly for me, but I suspect for others also, being linked like this is a PIA.
- In Plex Media Server up to 1.19.5 you can disable the automatic creation of collections in the advanced settings of each library (
Use collection info from The Movie Database
) - As of 1.20.0 (currently in beta) you can use the new Plex Movie agent. Automatic collection creation can also be disabled – however you can alternatively set a minimum threshold of items in your library that need to be part of a collection for Plex to actually create it.
Aha, that second point sounds ideal. The first I’ve already done, but being able to set that threshold will be perfect.
I’ll just wait for the new release.
