In the last month or two I notice movies disappearing from the library… Movies that once displayed their thumbnail in the library and once played just for some odd reason now do not show in the library anymore …
The video file remains in the movie directory and intact … so the movie is their but … neither scan nor refresh metadata get the thumbnail to display in the library…
At first it seemed only certain mkv files were doing this and so I found I could fix the problem by converting the mkv to mp4 … But now mp4 files are disappearing…
What can cause this?? And what can fix this??? Or what test(s) can I try to further narrow down the problem of disappearance…
Well I change mode to 777 thinking it fix it but … It did not … What did fix it was renaming the file …
However … I have another issue where I have two different movies with exact same title and Plex is pulling data for the other movie … Background and poster I have been able to fix but the Cast and related movies I have not …
Is there a way I can edit cast and related movies???
One thing I suggest checking is the embedded metadata (which MP4 and AVI files can carry).
If that info (the Name / Title field) is not clean (contains confusing junk) then Plex won’t be able to match it reliably.
I have found that, when using MP4 & AVI (what little I do), Clear out all embedded metadata. Doing so let’s PMS match by filename. (It will use embedded info if avaiable – so remove what’s embedded).
