These are the version numbers that are on my Plex server app. I don’t know what they define.
Version#:4.87.2
Version #1.30.1.6562
For about two months now, my movie title metadata disappears after I click on the thumbnails to read the movie information, or to watch a movie.
The movie then jumps to the top of the album and displays only the thumbnail image and the date the movie was made. The movie title is gone.
I can then “fix match” to restore the title and it will then re-sort to its correct alphabetical location within the folder. This situation happens regardless of the device accessing my server. Any device that browses my server will cause the files viewed, to lose their title metadata. I do not know how to fix the problem.
Is there anyone that knows the solution? I’ve posted this before but nobody ever responded about it.
My server is a 2018 Mac Mini,
3.2 Ghz 6-core Intel Core I7,
Graphics Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
1TB SSD
macOS 13.1 (22C65) Ventura
Almost sounds like it tries to rescan the file and looses the match. I’m going to assume you started your library a number of years ago, switched to the new Plex Scanner/Agent, and at some point after that started experiencing this issue.
My best guess is that this is a file naming/matching issue. Can you recreate the issue, note the date time, affected movie, its filename, and then post the server logs ?
I can recreate it easily. It happens every time for the most part. I started using Plex a very long time ago. The file naming is perfect and it doe not discriminate between old files and new files. In fact, perfectly new files do exactly the same thing as old ones? The problem started in late November. Before then I’d never noticed it happening.
It does blink as though it’s scanning the file. I’ve tried to find a setting that will stop it from happening, but no luck.
Just now at 2:42pm January 14, 2023 - I clicked on the files “Sharktopuss” (2010) and “47 Meters Down” (2019). Both files lost their title metadata and jumped to the top of the order.
I downloaded the file as you suggested, but I’m having trouble attaching the log to this post. When I click the upload button, I’m told that the file is too big. Can you tell me which files to upload?
When I look at the info concerning the file, information says that the log is 68.4mb.
I dowloaded the log but it did not give me an option for a zip file. My download is a full download of the uncompressed data.
I hate to sound like an “newby,” but it seems that something is behaving very differently in every aspect of my Plex issues??
This what the screen looks like after looking at information about a movie. After viewing the information, or if I start the movie and stop it, the title metadata disappears and the movie goes to the top of the album. They appear int the order that they were viewed.
I’m sorry that I have no clue about this situation. It’s still going on and I’ve re-installed and updated all of my apps. I’ve even had new installations continue to cause this" missing title" issue after looking at a thumbnail or playing a movie.
Has anyone else reported this? It started I think in November of 2022, after an update to the server software.
I have this happening too. I don’t even have to click on the movies or watch them for it to happen. There are 376 movies whose titles disappear. I reset the metadata for my entire movie library and they come back, but then are gone again within a couple of days. I can’t seem to find a solution for this anywhere.
Make sure you don’t have “Prefer local metadata” enabled when editing the library and going to the Advanced tab. After making sure that is disabled, run a metadata refresh for the library.
My guess is your files have embedded tags but the title field for some reason is blank.
Okay, that was enabled. I unchecked it and refreshed the metadata. As my problem usually occurs within a couple of days, I’ll wait to see if it worked. Thank you so much!
I don’t have local metadata on my files. The settings are unchecked also. This started with an update to the server software. Nobody seems to know the answer, unfortunately.
Hello. I was wondering if anyone ever got back with you about this issue. It’s still present and making using Plex difficult. I’ve done everything except delete everything and start over. I’m not really wanting to do that if I can prevent it.
