A certain new movie will not show/stay on Plex Server

Just wondering if anyone else has had a movie/video MP4/MKV that plays fine and is not corrupt, pop up briefly after a scan, then go ahead and is not available on Plex Server. I have tried multiple formats/encodes and all show after auto/manual scans for about 15 seconds …then poof…in the bit bucket. The files are fine.

Very often this will get ‘merged’ with another movie.
This in turn is often caused by improper file names or if you have several files with identical embedded ‘title’ meta data.

Try to enable the ‘duplicates’ filter in your library. Then inspect the Plex media info of those items, which have a small blue number in the upper, left corner of their poster.
You might find your newly added file among them.

Here is a procedure which I recommend to battle the influence of embedded meta data:
Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Make sure your files are named according to the official Plex guidelines
https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/media-preparation/
I recommend the ‘one subfolder per-movie’ approach.

After doing the above, perform the Plex Dance with the movie in question.
Perhaps “dance” also the movie under which poster you found your new file.

Thanks, that was the ticket (I already had dups turned on) though). Dance complete and all good!!! It wasn’t a dup, goofy agent said I added the movie 3 months ago and I was looking at the list sorted by date added. So, it popped up for a few seconds as a new add, then disappeared into the past…

Thanks again !
