Disassociate File with Movie Title (Two Files Matching Same Title)

Circling back to this thread which has been closed.

When an IMBD entry is missing causes two files to be associated with the same title:

How do I disassociate the 2007 file/manually edit it’s metadata so that it is recognized as a separate title?

Have you tried the “split apart”? (https://support.plex.tv/articles/201018248-merge-or-split-items/ - second section of that article)

That’s what I did for a few films that were in similar arrangement as yours.

I can’t get to the title page because there’s two files and there’s no Merge/Split Apart option in my ellipsis menu:

Your menu shows “match”, and no “Fix Match” or “Unmatch” which the support page shows. Have you tried matching the entry and then splitting the two ?

Using Plex Web or Desktop, on the movie page, select the three dots to the right of the pencil icon. You should then see Split Apart as one of the choices.

An alternative…

TMDB has an entry for the 2007 film (link). You can use that ID on the folder/file name, and Plex should separate it from the 2008 film.

Note: You may need to Plex Dance the 2007 film after renaming/reorganizing.

The TMDB entry is sparse, so you won’t get much metadata. You can either add the missing info in Plex or create a TMDB account and add it there. Plex should pick up new info on TMDB in ~48 hours.

On my server, using a test file for both movies:

TMDB has no cover art for the 2007 movie, so Plex pulls an image from the test file (IMDB has no entry for the 2007 movie).

Many thanks for the help. I renamed the files per @FordGuy61 suggestion and the Wimbledon 2008 Official Film is now recognized correctly:

FYI, I only applied to the tmdb reference to the parent folder:
