So I installed the latest version last night and I’ve noticed the additional streaming services from Discover that are shown when using the Watchlist were not functional buttons to go to those services now. They were just a bunch of icons and can only be selected as a group, which takes me to a page that tells me direct linking is not available at this time, and to go launch x service manually if I want to access the title there.
To make sure I hadn’t imagined things, I reinstalled 9.1.0 and, yes, I can choose the additional service individually, and it will launch the app. I’ll admit that was a bit buggy and required setting the default app association the first time, but Amazon at least seemed to work correctly, taking me to the title in their library.
So I’m wondering, is this a bug in 9.2.0, or is this a walking back of the Discover feature functionality on purpose at the request of some outside party?
Yeah, that’s kinda what I was wondering. FireOS (and other streaming device platforms) already have a feature like Plex’s Discover aggregating viewing options for a certain title.
In fact, last week I opened a browser window to the Plex web app, and another to my watchlist on Amazon Prime, and copied my titles to the new Plex feature. I honestly rarely remember about the Prime watchlist when I’m looking for something to watch, and I noticed then that multiple titles I’d added in the past that were on Prime when I added them had been rotated out and were now pay Amazon on Demand, or on other services, so I missed seeing them for free.
But I can see myself using the Watchlist on Plex more, since it’s more visible to me and I can also list content from my own Plex libraries on it.
