See, this is what frustrates us users. Plex could have stayed within their lanes, knowing that each of the major companies have nuanced goal posts, that they could have continued to just innovate from within instead of rely on other platforms altogether. Now that Watchlist and Discovery have made it almost a year out and STILL Beta, Amazon is the most current besides Roku going against Deep Linking which renders the opening of other streaming apps on both Roku and Amazon Fire devices completely useless. What a giant waste!
Guess I am a weirdo, I am not angry with Plex for what Amazon is doing.
Those apps were already called out when these features were announced as not being able to deep link in our docs for Discover and Watchlist.
That doesn’t seem to be true… Amazon Fire TV is missing the asterisk on the Watchlist docs.
edit
Looks like someone needs to update PlayStation and Xbox on the Watchlist doc too, unless somehow deep linking is working only from the Watchlist and not Discover?
The fact that literary HALF of the devices listed makes these shoved features half baked and aren’t practical if the other platforms that Plex is installed on won’t play nice.
It still has users rely on good ol’ pen and paper or a tool like Trakt to keep tabs of what they actually watch. Plex is unable to actually fulfill this feature to its full potential and like the rest of what has been dismantled and gutted in the past few years, I see the same for this in another 5 years.
It’s a “No, duh” result every time I reach the Where to Watch section.
True. I’ll ask those get updated. Must have forgotten to update it when the other was.
And when those services ever allow us to deep link we will. Until then we need to follow their rules or not have an app in their stores at all. For Android originally made it work ( since it is the same app as the google play store) but they were not approved for the Amazon store and we had to remove it from the start.
Slightly off topic, but I love Watchlists and Discovery because I use Overseer.
Someone has suggested they can install Android version of Plex in FireTV and it should work (haven’t tested). While Amazon has changed the policy recently, Roku was still like that for a long time.
One more reason to consider AppleTV in future but that also has its own cons.
