Discover on Roku

is Discover going to support Roku for launching shows and movies?

They, Plex, Inc. has to find away to get Roku, Inc. to allow linkage to occur. Roku currently forbids any apps to have any linkage to other content from other apps. Plex has basically put the blame on Roku but Plex fully went into this new project of theirs knowing full well that this was going to be the case as well as not putting an asterisk of details letting us all know that Roku was going to be left out. It wasn’t until the question had to be asked after coming face to face with the messages on the Plex for Roku app that the experience was going nowhere after that.

It’s a TBD situation and the answer for now is NO. You will have to manually open the streaming app for the content you have in both Discover and Wishlist, if the media isn’t in your own library.

well blow that… No point is having it. Will do as I have been doing and just open the app.

they should allow disabling it.

right, same as xbox, so basically discover is a waste of time, i get so frustrated when these faeatures are claimed as being game changwrs when theu were already crippled at laumch

yep waste of time why even bother trumpeting it, crippled at launch

doesnt work for xbox either

Plex end game is to compete with Roku.

Roku only sells hardware to create a marketing channel. Plex is attempting to force Roku to continue to lose money on their hardware and steal the marketing channel dollars away from Roku.

But you would THINK they would have realized that Discover was going to be challenging due to the issues Google and a few others had with Roku. Not to mention the previous war that Amazon and Google had. Plex should have stayed in their lane.

At the very least I thought Plex would have had played it smart and stayed clear of having major issues that would cripple our experiences.

We already have enough on our plate having to deal with some features not being implemented due to platform restrictions such as Gapless Playback.

Again, I wouldn’t have thought Plex was this stupid and naive to implement a feature that only works on a selected few hardware platforms.

You’d think that it would have been optional to be turned off if the user had no use for it at launch.

You have been watching the way Plex has changed and changed the apps to maximize the chances for monetizing everything on their customers computer, right?

They simply assume that everyone is too stupid to realize what Plex us really doing and where Plex has placed its priorities. While making money is good for businesses Plex (and many other online companies) is doing it to simply screw their users. Some users like it and some don’t but that does not bother Plex. They signed contracts to basically spam their users and they are doing exactly that. The so called “discover” “feature” is actually no better than a way to make more money from users.

What the “services” that Plex advertises with their discover feature want is to be exposed to people that do not currently subscribe. That kind of advertising works. If it did not work we would not have calls to people without cars about their auto warranty. Once it gets set up it costs Plex nothing and, except for whatever they pay Plex, it costs the advertised services nothing.

The only people getting screwed by excessive advertising is the users.

Now Plex says we can turn it off, sort of. But Plex still has the ability to glean data which they sell. Plex is simply lying when they say you can turn it off. Or they have changed the definition of “off”.

Pelx has shown they cannot be trusted or at least they can only be trusted to screw their customers as often and as thoroughly as possible. The strange thing I find is that so many users continue to use Plex. I guess some people enjoy the data rape Plex perpetrates on its users. Or it could be that it is true that:
“No one ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of the public.”

BTW: I find it a good thing that people are finding Discover hard or impossible to use on the Roku. Sometimes a fight between two super greedy and borderline corrupt companies results in something good for the user. If I never have the ability to use Discover on my Rokus it will be several days too soon.
But that is too much to hope for as it costs Plex money while they are failing part of their contractual obligations by things not working on the Roku. Because of that Plex will somehow fix the Roku problem. It is important to the greedy folks at Plex.
