Discover Source Selection

I know discover is a pretty controversial feature. However, I’ve been doing some testing with it and am curious if anyone has any insight into how Plex decides what sources to show for a search.

Here is an example: I have a cable login to apps like TNT. The movie “Central Intelligence” is available to watch on the TNT(or TBS as they are related) app with my cable login. Plex does not produce TNT as a source for this title. However, it does produce TNT when searching for say “Snowpiercer” the show. What gives?

To me it feels like Plex is maintaining a list of items manually somewhere associating items with services and maybe these kinds of rotating titles are deemed not worth the time to manage when they rotate in and out. If this is true that’s kind of a bummer. I’ve subbed to Youtube TV in the past and it was able to produce these kinds of “On Demand” results in their search which is really one of the stronger features. In addition to staying in the same app to play the stream.

So I’ll end with I don’t hate discover, but if plex could index more items from sources on their list and keep me in the plex app that would be a better implementation.
