Maybe we could have a notification (not an email) when someone wrote a message on a movie we watchlisted or elsewhere ?
@Tangs you can choose push notifications for My Messages in the iOS or Android apps settings
Are they working now. The last time I checked push notifications weren’t activated yet. One of the main reasons why our Plex Home has since quit using the interactive features.
“My messages” should be working afaik.
No push notifications for me or my friends yet…
I noticed what seems to be a bug… The upcoming “Haunted Mansion” movie (2023) is already appearing as available to watch, even though it won’t be released for another year — when I click to view it on Disney+, it’s linking to the old Eddie Murphy movie (2003).
Love the idea of a Letterboxd-type feed inside of Plex - a lot of my circle use it so my group of friends & family are exactly the market for this.
I would love the ability to add a written review/comment immediately pop-up upon rating a film, defaulting to all friends.
Is there a problem right now with push notifications? They worked fine for a while but now the last maybe 2 weeks it seems when I share something or getting shared an item no notification appears on the Android app?
My friend I’m sharing with doesn’t get them anymore either.
We haven’t changed anything.
@d2freak these are the “My Messages” push notifications?
As expected, utilization of these features has been nonexistent from family and friends who don’t run Plex servers themselves. The obvious reason is that beyond adding something to your watchlist these features don’t exist on player apps on televisions and STBs.
One complaint I’ve heard a bunch from my family is that when they venture into these Discover or Watchlist areas, features they expect from Plex (like being able to see a filmography if you click an actor) don’t work even when browsing locally available media in both sections. Personally I hope we eventually see full filmography when clicking cast pics and it just isn’t ready… but right now it’s coming across like these areas are broken.
There doesn’t seem to have been much iteration on any of this since it launched so I’m even seeing utilization of these features drop off amongst server owners and I’m using it less as well.
Exactly, yes. They used to work fine and we used them quite a bit. The settings are still turned on in the Android app, we double checked.
It does get shared, just no push notifications.
@d2freak are you getting other push notifications, like for things added to library? Push notification permission is definitely enabled in the system settings for the app?
I am. No push notifications for discover… we have since disengaged due to this….
Can second this. Also those that have aren’t finding much use. There isn’t much to “discover together”. Nothing about what’s popular with other people is visable on any app
I’ve actually forgotten that this is a thing. I really don’t see it called out or appearing in any of the user end functions.
It reminds me of many Google rollouts. They put something cool out into the world, and give it little to no support… then pull the plug on it later and wonder why it never took off.
While my mother was okay with Discovery, as it had been mentioned when I talked her through what to expect, she has now confirmed that Roku has more or less nailed this Discovery part because #1: Roku TV’s and Roku sticks already operate well enough given its their OS ecosystem #2: Discovery in itself is fine as an alternative to find things within the PLEX ecosystem but due to Roku hindering the operation of app links, prohibiting Plex to infiltrate and allow app linking, its not useful to Roku users #3: its redundant, redundant, redundant
Like it was said MONTHS ago when this was rushed and released - sure, you all got a contract to implement this “feature” and were probably paid an exuberant amount to get it done, more power to those new overlords, but I can confidently say that a larger percentage of the Plex user base would have liked to have seen a PROPER revamp of Podcasts, Internet Radio, OR if you wanted to throw us all up for a NEW feature, it would have been the FINAL RELEASE of Audiobooks as a Library Type.
Discovery could have come out Fall or Winter of this year. Its not an earth shattering, “INNOVATIVE” product or service that you Plex overlords THINK it is. Not to mention the OUTCRY of frustration, not initially having the on/off switches AT LAUNCH, which came out 4-5 months LATER.
Is work still happening on this? Haven’t been many updates since launch no?
Some updates/redesigns of things will be out soon. There are more things that we hope to be out by year end (but hopefully sooner) like support in the TV clients
Option to generate a 2nd RSS feed URL for Friends Watchlist has been added the Watchlist settings. It will follow your friends privacy settings, so if they do not share their watchlist their items will not show up. It will not identify who they came from.
Is there an example of a service that uses this? And, am I completely missing how I can get to my friends Watchlist from within Plex itself?
