You click on their names in your friends list. https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/friends
They must be a part of the Discover Together beta and opt into that (instructions on the first post of this here thread), and they must have chosen to publish their watch lists (it’s Opt-In).
It would be nice to see a combined list of things my friends are interested in. Future offering?
As I’m clicking around among my friends list, I find two things…
- I am reminded that there is still extraordinarily low buy in for this stuff (which I think should be way higher based on ease of use and fun factor) and
- I’m really wishing I could do this from a client instead of web (coming soon?)
You should be able use the watchlist RSS any RSS reader some folks still use them for News and such on their desktops.
The activity feed is in the mobile apps.
I believe being able to filter the activity feed by the types that are in it watch listed, watched, rates is still on the table.
A “What my friends recently watchlisted” or similar may be a hub for the Discover source is also on the table as a possibility as well so you don’t have to go into individual profiles.
I’ve noticed a couple of major issues this week:
- Going to any media’s “master” details page from Discover does NOT reflect that I can access the media on my friend’s server (which IS shared with me) …nothing is displayed under “Watch from these locations,” even though it’s definitely available. If I instead search for the item, it shows as available on their server. If I navigate directly to the media within their server, it works fine.
- My Watchlist is displayed as blank/empty on one device, but with over 300 titles on another. I have tried resetting Home page customization, logging out/in, restarting the device…

- Your friend’s server must use the new metadata agents in its libraries

https://support.plex.tv/articles/migrating-a-tv-library-to-use-the-new-plex-tv-series-agent-scanner/ - You must activate “DISPLAY AVAILABILITIES FROM OTHER STREAMING SERVICES ON DETAIL PAGES” on this page: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

Verify that you are not using different user accounts on these devices (even a managed user is a different account).
Try logging out and back in on the device with the empty Watchlist.
The libraries are using the latest metadata agents – all other accounts seem to be linking master and local media. It’s just this one account that doesn’t. (I’m the server owner @norarose was referencing)
I’m am not sure what you mean here.
I mean if I visit an item from the Discover page, I can see that it is available on our local server. So can all other friend accounts I’ve checked. Just @norarose cannot.
Have you confirmed that she enabled
You must activate “DISPLAY AVAILABILITIES FROM OTHER STREAMING SERVICES ON DETAIL PAGES” on this page: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources
on her account?
Yes, I have that option enabled.
Adding to this – the new actor pages are great, however, they also don’t indicate or link to my own server content.
In most cases, I’ve seen media listed as available to watch on any server but my own (and I do have the content, and my server is fully up to date, including metadata).
This is the same experience when logged in as another user with access to my server.
In all cases, I can search for and play the media in question on my server. I just can’t get there from any of the Discover pages or Watchlist.
Note that my comment before stated that I could see this linked content as the server owner. This is no longer the case.
Please make sure to check out the forum post about the Discover Credits and it’s Support Article. There are a couple caveats that your libraries may fall into causes the issue you’re seeing. Please review the FAQ in the Support Article to see what may be the root cause. This area doesn’t really follow this thread’s subject so could we continue this in the Discover Credits thread?
Yes, thank you for this!! It turns out the “Adult Content” setting was enabled for all my libraries, which was the issue. After turning off the setting and logging out/in, all is well.
Another feedback item: now that there’s this wonderful Discover experience, I’m wishing there was a way to limit content.
My daughter has an “official” Plex account (not a managed user) so she can sync her content between multiple households, Trakt, etc. It would be wonderful if we could specify a content rating limitation for Discover page content, so she’s not seeing rated-R movies. She likes the new watchlist feature and trailers, so I’m hoping we won’t simply have to turn off the entire section for her.
Note that I do NOT limit the content she can access on our own server based on ratings, as there are exceptions. Instead, I use labels to specify which of our content she can see. I’m hoping there will be a way to specify a limitation only for the Discover content.
This is definitely an interesting case because as an “official” Plex account holder you cannot restrict access for yourself, only for other user’s access to your PMS if you own a PMS. Managed Users allow for controlling access within your PMS and Plex’s free Video on Demand catalog (via content ratings or restriction profiles, not labels) but does not have access to Discover, User Profile, Watch History syncing, etc. So you and your daughter are in an awkward state, sorry about that, of getting some useful and wanted features but at the cost of too much unwanted content.
There are a lot moving parts here and lots of edge cases to consider. Parental controls, user migration (managed > official), and other account related cases (Discover access for managed users) are things I want to see us improve.
I do the same for my daughters, though they use Managed Accounts. These are definitely concerns for me as well.
Android TV v9.12.2.36964 now supported
I enrolled in the beta a couple of weeks ago and last week received the weekly summary email. I then unsubscribed from the weekly summary email, only to receive it again today! I have double checked and can confirm I’m not subscribed to the weekly summary email… A bug?
End of the year feedback: So, Discover so far serving generic recommendations where users don’t have much control over. Hopefully in future Plex gives further refinement of choosing particular genre, studios, and most importantly streaming services. As it will be amazing to discover what all “Action” movies are available on my Netflix without even opening it. ![]()
New/Trending/Coming Soon sections are dynamic, it would be nice if we can manual specify what’s going on specific streaming provider rather than Plex choosing randomly for us from all the selected services.
Moving on to Discover → Activity section, would love to have further control in terms of filtering things, muting friends, etc. Since for now every activity by them is bombarding my Activity page. I still think design can be even better, currently everything looks stacked, unpolished and unnatural.
Watchlist: ‘Coming Soon’ section is a nice touch. ‘Continue Watching’ section should also include Movies though imo, currently only TV is shown.
PS: Thank you for enabling Cast so that we can click on actors, that is best thing happened to Discover since launch. ![]()
I just looked at your Plex account info. You unsubscribed from marketing emails last week (and we have not sent you any marketing emails since then), but your account doesn’t show any changes to the Discover Together activity messaging. You can do that from your mobile app “notifications” settings. See our https://support.plex.tv/articles/activity-feed/ article for more details on changing those preferences.
Thank you. I actually got an email today (screenshot below, with email address obscured for the account that was already opted out).
I have also checked notification settings in the Plex android app for the same account as you suggested and emails are disabled, as expected.
I think this is expected behaviour. I used the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the Discover Together Week in Review email last week to unsubscribe, expecting this to populate across my account, regardless of any other places that may show the same settings, e.g. in the app as you have pointed out. This appears to be behaving correctly, and showing as already disabled in the app too.
