Discover Together Beta : Announcement & Feedback

Maybe but that would be a separate feature request than the Discover Together topic you posted in. I also just don’t think we are likely to create another separate type of system to do the same sorta thing but I have certainly been wrong before.

I would think there are many many more music albums, even if not talking about individual tracks than movies

Plex team please, the “Trending” recommendation is getting rediculous now with close to multiple Porn like posters and titles. I don’t want to see them in my Discover nor Search section.
An option to opt them out will be really helpful. I don’t want to disable Discover/Search just for that. Make it happen please.

Better controls over NR content please. It’s long overdue… I no longer use Discover in our home due to this.

@M_403 can you please take a screenshot of what you see so I can pass along with feedback. I don’t see any thing like that in my trending so not sure if because of differences in what is trending regionally or with the selected services.

I have made this recording, found easily 17 titles which it shouldn’t be there by default imo. It’s on Discover as well as Search page.
Basically anything above PG-13 shouldn’t be in trending by default I feel, unless I opt for it.

Likely region based yeah, I tried checking and Plex’s own free streaming services results are also getting blend in even though I didn’t select it, anyway to turn that off?

I am also thinking of disabling it everywhere except Phone. I remember way back could see 1 or 2 at max but those type of results are getting bombarded now.

You turn off our Movies & Shows at https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

Movies & TV, Live TV, and Music, all 3 are disabled. Could be a bug?

Oh sorry I thought you meant in the availabilities on details pages… The “Trending on Plex” hub will always show

Oh, got it. From quick observation, on these 2 tiles it’s always showing “Trending on Plex”, “Most Watchlisted this Week”.

To my surprise all the inappropriate title recommendations are sourcing from Plex free streaming itself, exception being one movie (365 Days) from Netflix.

Most of them are geographically based on trending, not sure what else we need to say to get action on this @BigWheel. It’s a well known issue and the approach to fixing it is always peace meal.

@blackzwe I’m not going to get into how easy something is to fix or change or what someone considers “porn like” or not. It isn’t just about NR content. I’ve passed the feedback along and the teams will look into it.

Neither do I @BigWheel, I do not believe I have alluded to it being pornographic, lewd, adult etc, I think a lot of us have just consistently asked the Devs to look into ways of managing content that isn’t moderated when it comes to ratings (which is my idea of NR content). You seldom get any questionable thumbnails from moderated content in my experience. Appreciate passing along out concerns, just the frustration with having these issues when we’re desperately trying to moderate content in a family friendly environment. That’s why my solution, the simple one was just to disable it entirely until a fix comes along.

Apologies in advance if I am being really dumb here, but I can’t seem to find an answer to what seems like an obvious feature.

If I share a link to a film I have in my local PMS library, say https://watch.plex.tv/movie/shermans-march. Should there be a link on that page that lets me, or a friend, play the movie directly from my local library?

Clicking ‘Add to Watchlist’ opens the movie in the https://app.plex.tv/desktop interface and from there I can see a link to the film in my PMS library under ‘Watch from these locations’. But that’s a two step process which requires you to first add the film to your watchlist. It’s also a bit confusing if all you, or a friend, wants to do is play the movie.

Am I missing a setting, or is this just not a feature currently?

btw. I am logged into my Plex account and using the new Plex Movie indexer to index my library

The web app at direct IP or app.plex.tv ( where the Open Plex button goes) securely accesses your server. Watch.plex.tv is separate from that and does not connect to users servers. We might find a way to combine them in the future but right now they are separate.

it only works on phones but if you share the link and they open on phone it should open the Plex app rather than browser and have server sources listed.

Could you please consider adding a toggle to only show content from the selected steaming providers? While I get the idea of seeing what’s popular, that often just results in paid rentals of new movies rather than a streaming service I don’t have. Given we’re plex users, I assume free content is of interest. A simple toggle would serve all and make this more useful for me (and presumably others). Thanks!

I just wanted to mention that the german localization is pretty bad for this. I know this is an automatic translation but should I post this feedback here?

For Example: Activity from you is be translated into Aktivität von du → but It should be “Aktivität von dir”. If you have something like a localization table I would like to give feedback

Are there any plans to combine ratings in any way?

For instance, I rate something a 5, someone else a 3, can it show a 4 average between my friends? Instead of ratings buried in the activity details

+1 for adding Genres, thanks Plex.

Suggestions & Feedback:

  • Making Discover global rather than it being limited to regional services.
  • Making Genres to list everything, so that one can browse through and discover cinema ever existed on earth.

Elaboration:
We are neither given a taste to browse everything Netflix has (just curated collections which has limited titles), nor Discover is Global or designed in a way where we can discover everything there is in existence.

I am hoping Plex thinks about this and goes full on Discover route where it’s a hub to “really discover”, if that’s too difficult then atleast make us browse through whole library of xyz service of our region for now.

Since, it feels like Plex is great for discovering trending and tiny subset of titles but not more than that, which I am hoping will change.
